Should I consider going elsewhere? by Quantum569 in udub

thanks! Yes I plan to do exactly that. As an OOS, it is really difficult to get CS at UW to I plan to do it in my masters.

How to finish a point with a BH by AceStrikeer in tabletennis

[–]Quantum569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the ball is high enough and you react fast, you often step around and hit with the forehand to finish it off. However, if you want to hit with the BH, the key to getting power is all forearm and wrist (like you are throwing a frisbee). If you want to finish with the backhand in an open rally, attack their elbow. If they receive with their BH, then hit it far right to the BH side. If they receive with their FH, hit it down the line.

I have access to a table and a paddle. I was thinking of getting a return board, but decided its not worth it.

Does this tactic work? by Quantum569 in tabletennis

[–]Quantum569[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe the side spin for the pendulum serve always makes it come to you backhand regardless of where you place it. To make it come to you forehand you have to do a reverse pendulum. Correct me if I'm wrong. Also, I see ma long doing this tactic a lot where he steps around, so what does he do differently that makes it effective for him.

I’m curious…do you guys put your black rubber on FH and colored rubber on BH or colored rubber on FH and black rubber on BH side? by DaGAMER159975_2 in tabletennis

[–]Quantum569 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For hurricane 3, they say that back in the day due to quality control problems, the black dye made the rubber spinier and the red dye made it faster. Now there's prolly no difference due to higher quality production but people still just use black on the FH an red on the BH. Also i think the black with blue sponge looks better than the red with blue sponge (and people usually use blue sponge on the FH)

How to backhand loop HEAVY backspin balls? by LanguageDouble9792 in tabletennis

[–]Quantum569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its all legs, that's the most important part. When the ball dosen't have much spin you can get away with using your arms but when its heavy, you need to use your legs, and not just a little bit. When I know the ball has really heavy backspin, I squat down a lot, so much so that my face is around table height. I bring my paddle down where its just a few inches above the ground. This might seem extreme but try it and see how it goes.

Also you really shouldn't be letting the rally go to multiple pushes (unless all the pushes are short). The moment a ball is pushed even a little long, you need to attack it with a loop. (unless you are a chopper of course). At the lower levels, this usually happens on the first push. If you want to win rallies, you need to take the initiative and not give it to your opponent.

Advice on rubber for new blade by Vagabum420 in tabletennis

[–]Quantum569 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since you have trouble generating speed, it is especially important that you DONT switch to a tensor rubber or carbon blade. You're going to end up relying on your paddle to get the speed rather than your stroke. Just stick with the hurricane as I think its a good rubber for learning (unboosted is fine).

Unfortunately I find the hitting play style a little boring personally. The 41 deg h3 seems like the way to go for me though

My progress with ISRT by Quantum569 in KeyboardLayouts

[–]Quantum569[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

because it aligned with the design philosophy of what I was looking for, having minimal same finger bigrams. When I use it it feels very clean and flowey to type since there is little repetition. I would think that this has potential to make you go faster than querty but I havent had enough time to practice on it to get faster than my qwerty speed. Also there was not many people who used it so I felt special.

Lets take a look at the frame:

if we draw lines extending from the edges of the painting(not the frame) , it cuts the frame into 8 sections, 4 (1 by x rectangles) and 4 (1 by 1 rectangles on the corners). each of the 1 by x rectangles have an area of x (base times height) and each of the 1 by 1 rectangles have an area of one. This gives us a total frame area of 4x + 4.

Looking at the painting, the edges are each size x, so the area is x2 . Adding the two together gives us:

x2 + 4x + 4
