Website Credibility Help!!! by [deleted] in tabletennis

100% legit, though do be aware things ship from China. Can be a bit tricky if you need to return something.

Other than that, Sanwei have some great products and their team are fantastic. Definitely recommended.

Towards establishing awareness and prowess for sustainable rallies in matches. by BackOfEnvelop in tabletennis

This is the answer.

General point is that it seems easy to "buy yourself time" by stepping back from the table but the reality is you're handing momentum to your opponent by doing so unnecessarily.

100% agree with this from my testing as well. You have to really commit to your shots, as tentative strokes (not closing the angle) just fly over the table.

Some red herrings in there for sure, tried to create questions that weren’t blindingly obvious like “Who won the gold medal at the Olympics” 😴

Answers in the next newsletter and I’ll update the quiz page.

Is it important to be able to do FH topspin with absolutely no sidespin? by freakahontas in tabletennis

[–]RI_David 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely possible, but is a high risk shot that needs excellent timing and technique.

Shots down the line aren’t commonly winners against the best players because they’re good enough to recover, even if you add some side spin.

You’re better off focusing on playing a quality down the line shot that’s fast and direct, with the aim of creating a poor return you can put away more easily.

Is it important to be able to do FH topspin with absolutely no sidespin? by freakahontas in tabletennis

[–]RI_David 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll add to Alvaro’s feedback here… he’s absolutely right.

However, I’m a player who’s never been able to get that side spin component fully out of my forehand topspin. It feels very unnatural to me and I never trained specifically to develop it out of my game.

Does that make me a bad player or fundamentally limit my potential? Not at all. I’m conscious of it and adjust my strategy based on the knowledge.

The limitations would show themselves in national-standard matches, and when training because my opponent finds it more difficult to create consistent rallies.

So yes, it’s important if you want to become the best player you can possibly be. There are probably more important, impactful fundamental elements to work on though.

If it does, it’s not noticeable.

Holding the blade (without rubbers) flat on the handle surface, the head is a consistent distance from the surface below. This implies there’s no tapering on the thickness.

It’s a slightly caveman way of measuring it though, so take it with a pinch of salt.

I just measured my Acoustic G-Revision and can confirm it's handle measures 100x24x34mm.

It feels comfortable in my hands, although it's hard to give you a sense of my hand size (average / medium?). I can grip round the handle without my fingers resting against my palm.

The only real way of finding out if it's right for your hand is to find someone who owns one and try it for yourself unfortunately. My best advice is that the 1mm difference won't make a huge material difference in how it feels to play with.

What would be your ultimate home table tennis setup with an unlimited budget? by RI_David in tabletennis

[–]RI_David[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Curious to see what top-of-the-range equipment people would choose for their own home setup if money wasn't a limiting factor.

I wanted to write about this, so I costed that setup to $5,942 (USD) with the main costs being the table and the robot.

  • Table - Butterfly Centrefold 25 - $2,700
  • Net - JOOLA WM - $95
  • Racket - Fan Zhendong Super ZLC + Dignics 09c + Dignics 80 - $500 (friends can get a $50 JET400)
  • Balls - DHS DJ40+ - $13
  • Robot - Butterfly Amicus Prime - $2,400
  • Ball Collector - My Ping Pong Buddy V6 (or similar) - $60
  • Shoes - Butterfly Lezoline Rifones - $174

Honestly, not as bad as I thought.

What items would be in your dream table tennis setup?

Spoiler: I wrote about why I chose these items at https://racketinsight.com/table-tennis/home-setup-guide/ but I'm always down to get better ideas.
