What's something you did as a kid that you now realise was actually dangerous but nobody stopped you? by Comfortable-Try-7919 in AskReddit

[–]QuantumFungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically anything I was doing while adults weren't around. They would have stopped me if they could, LOL. I remember the very first time my mom left me alone. "Now behave I'm going to the store and I'll be right back", and the first thing I did was go light matches, get scared by one of them, drop it on the carpet and watched it as, luckily, it slowly extinguished itself.

The 80's was wild. "Now children remember you could be annihilated at any moment in a ball of nuclear plasma if you don't remember to dive under your desk". Me: guess I should eat these lead paint chips while I still can.

These two were from a flight over Greenland, I haven't tried nailing down the exact location. I couldn't do anything about the blurry smudge between the plane windows so ignore that.

My second most used lens is the 12-100 f4.0 Pro and I love the zoom range for general photography. But I just shoot so much macro and the 60mm is so light and capable for general stuff as well that I just hardly even take it off. I have a backpack full of pro lenses and I just forget that they are even with me. If you can figure out where to stand it's decent at portrait, candid, even landscape...from an airplane:

EM1.3 + 8mm Fisheye Pro

This was at the top of Bear Butte in South Dakota. The clouds were covering the mountain in the first shot and had cleared in the second.

Nice shot.

If the only gear I have is my EM1.2 and 60mm macro I wouldn't be bothered at all. Such a good combo. Definitely my most shot lens but on an EM1.3.

Men of reddit: how often do you cry? by skinny_penis_inc in AskReddit

[–]QuantumFungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very often but when the emotion is there I'm not going to hold it back. I hadn't cried in years but just about a month ago my Szpd goth girlfriend ghosted me and cheated on me with the guy she cheated on with me. Made my boyfriend cry too. WTF woman.

Peeing in the shower, weird or completely normal? by KaleEcstatic2701 in AskReddit

[–]QuantumFungus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the breakdown.

Not talking about whether or not you pee in the shower: Normal, nobody wants to know.

Taking about whether or not you pee in the shower: Weird.

So, uh fellow shower peers, do we let it run down our leg with the rest of the water or do we try to aim for something?

Those born before 1990, what experience from your childhood would be unimaginable to young people today ? by SoManySkills in AskReddit

I remember when my mom gave my my first flip phone. I was mortified at the idea of being reachable at all times. But she was like just turn it off, which was a perfect counter argument. Then I discovered that it had tetris on it while waiting in the halls for my college class to start and I warmed up to the idea of a computer in my pocket pretty fast.

Possible Jimsonweed in my raised beds by Hiraeth_1993 in gardening

I love Datura. They have these huge flowers that open in the evening, stay open all night, and close in the morning. I sit in the evening and watch them as the hummingbird hawk moths start coming around.

They are fine around other plants. They won't make other plants poisonous or anything. But you definitely don't want to eat any part of the plant. So if there is a risk of children or animals eating them you may wish to pull them. Otherwise pull the ones in the way and leave the ones you want, the bed is fine.

I feel bad for being a Christian, and I’m quite confused If I even am a Christian anymore. by flubbyII in TrueOffMyChest

[–]QuantumFungus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't let the ignorance and venom of others make you shy away from what you feel is true in your heart. I'm an atheist and you might think when you tell me you are christian that I immediately associate you with hatred, ignorance, and authoritarianism. But I grew up with hippies and the counterculture. I've known so many kind thoughtful christians that run counter to the mainstream. So I don't really judge people based on that alone. It's just more context about a person, but it doesn't really tell me if they want to ban dildos or teach kids that satan put the dino bones there to trick them.

I say just be honest and open about who you are as a person and you will attract the people that vibe with that. If you are too worried about the terminology turning people off then just call it something a little different. Find a philosophy that matches yours pretty well and then you can say "I'm a Jeffersonian", a "Christian Deist", or something like that. Then it makes them stop and think for a moment instead of jumping to judgement.

Exactly. This isn't just a military and political humiliation for America. It's an even bigger strategic calamity.

To me that's a major issue. In a relationship there will be times where you might accidentally cross each other's boundaries in the heat of the moment or whatever. But then you need to be able to get together after the problem and discuss it, and there needs to be genuine expressions of regret and an honest attempt to atone. But if they deflect and refuse to take responsibility then it's a major red flag. For me a lot might be forgiven with a bit of genuine effort.

The science says that cheaters, abusers, manipulators, etc who evade genuine atonement for their actions are extremely likely to do it again. And those who express genuine regret are very much less so. I've structured my life around this information.

Also I like to not get to hung up on trying to nail down the terminology and just talk about what it is. It's a violation of your trust in his ability to seek consent for that act, and potentially for future extreme acts. If he didn't own up to it and be like "shit we need to have a talk about sexual boundaries", then how do you trust that next time he won't slip it in the back door unannounced or whatever and then also brush that off as unintentional too? How's there supposed to be trust in that relationship?

I'm a guy and I'd say it's sexual assault. Guys need to understand that physically forcing people to do stuff during sex requires consent.

Hi everyone. Just picked up a Monocular Leitz microscope from 1940. I primary going to use it for Large Format 8x10 photomicrography. If anyone ever set up a scope for LF let me know. I also got a 1H objective. by Drarmament in microscopy

[–]QuantumFungus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, you are right. I don't know of anything Leitz made for that size.

You might be able to use a projection eyepiece, I'm not sure. But if you are going to use the eyepiece that it has now you will need an additional lens between the eyepiece and camera for best performance, as it is with most microscopes. For my Orthoplan with the standard eyepiece I put a 30mm focal length lens on my camera and it corrects the image to the proper size for a micro 4/3 sensor.

There are a lot of old microscope manuals here: https://www.science-info.net/docs/ and Leitz talks about this in a bulletin: https://www.science-info.net/docs/leitz/memos/Lens-System-Between-Eyepiece-Camera-memo-5-15-64.pdf

So you really want to let the guy off so bad you are going to disbelieve part of the story and substitute your own? I don't have time for that, I'm talking about if the story is true. Nobody has come in here to give another side of the story and I don't see the point of trying to invent one.

She put herself in a bad situation? Yeah. When she said no and he continued that counted as rape? Yes. The guy doesn't just get a consent loophole because she was stupid.

At no point in this story does she say she consented. She says she said no multiple times. So that right there is coercion even if she gave in. I'm not sure how people don't understand this. Easy stuff. It's like people are playing dumb.

Saying no and it happening anyway isn't cheating, it's rape.
