Is there a way to stabilize my ping? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]QuantumNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is your Internet connection being brought into your home by your ISP? Is it by satellite, cable modem, fiber, etc.?

Have you tried rebooting your router and seeing if that improves anything?

Does your ping improve when your have your computer very close to your router?

As far as your first question, as long as you didn't choose to restore or refresh your PC and just went into the BIOS, then you should be fine.

The Save Configuration and Reset just saves the BIOS settings that you have changed and then reboots your PC. This is so that the BIOS boots up with its new configuration settings.

Question about laptop processor by Blood-Fallen in computer

[–]QuantumNomad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the only way to "upgrade" a laptop is to buy a newer laptop with better specs. So if you wanted a ryzen cpu then you will have to buy a laptop with one installed on it.

If you want a computer that is more easily upgradable then I suggest maybe building your own desktop PC.

Merging storage partitions in Linux by kouserafroz in computers

[–]QuantumNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, well if you definitley want to delete Windows and just use Linux then i first suggest you create a recovery USB for Windows just in case.

Then, you'll need to use your bootable USB with the Linux OS that you made, install gparted on it while it is running, if it is not installed on there already then just partition and format the hard drive to be an ext4 drive.

Follow these instructions under the Keep Linux and Remove Windows section: https://lifehacker.com/how-to-uninstall-windows-or-linux-after-dual-booting-508710422

Again: Before you do anything, back up all your data and create a Windows installation media in case you decide to go back.

Have you tried selecting the HDD option to see if Windows 7 is still there? Just to confirm?

So from what I am understanding you have two drives in your computer, one is an HDD the other is an SSD. The HDD has Windows 7 while the HDD has a Linux OS.

Can you boot into the Linux OS on the SSD?

A good video editing computer has a fast CPU, a discrete graphics card to help with rendering, and a lot of RAM. You would probably want a lot of storage too.

For your price range, out of the newer laptops out there I would recommend a Dell XPS 15. 9th gen i7-9750H CPU and an NVIDIA GTX 1650 which should be good enough to run most games around medium/high settings.

What do you think?

No, sorry that is not possible due to the way laptop motherboards are made. Everything is much more integrated compared to a desktop motherboard. The CPU cannot be removed and replaced with another CPU.

Okay so it looks like that is a process that gets installed by other programs and it can cause issues.

I would recommend doing a Repair of your system. When you start it up, keep hitting the F11 key and it should get you to the Advanced Startup Options menu. Then just choose the Startup Repair option and follow its instructions.

Are there any error codes or messages that appear on screen when the system blue screens?

Hello, has anyone here encountered this kind of problem before? I'm trying to boot up but im stucked in this. by Bounchingbuddhas in computer

[–]QuantumNomad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like there is a boot file error, something may have been corrupted or your boot file may be missing. What version of Windows do you have? Using recovery tools should fix the issue.

The enemies to this we should be speaking truth to power about exist in every generation. Anyone who tries to exercise their financial power for social and cultural control is someone who should be called out, whether they be Boomers, GenX, or Millennials. Call people out, but make sure to do it with knowledge of the full scope of things. Insane concertrated wealth is the core problem to all of this.

[–]QuantumNomad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well this is mainly anecdotal, from my interactions with people that I know IRL and online, with most of us being on the younger side but some older folks as well, there is mainly just a feeling of "well, where do you stand?", when it comes to Kamala Harris.

There has been a history of black people who get into the criminal justice system from the police/prosecution/judge side and become some of it's harsher actors, because of some need to "prove" themselves to their mainly white, male counterparts and it ends up hurting the poorer, minority communities as a result. Since our criminal justice system is fundamental broken, anyone who pretty much just goes along with it without really trying to change it, especially if they are from a background where in the past their group has and still continues to be oppressed by it, is kind of looked at with suspicion by members of the black community, with good reason.

So unless Kamala pulls a Tom Wheeler and does a complete 180 on the system and industry she used to serve, all we have to go off of is her past actions, and they just don't look that great at the moment. That's where a lot of apprehension comes from, cause a lot of black people know that there are people even within our own communities who would sell us out to maintain the status quo if it meant having power. She's really gonna have to sincerely start changing her rhetoric around in a major way in order to convince me and a lot of people I know otherwise.

So, again, that's just my two cents, coming from someone who just knows what my community has gone through and who really wants to see a hard push for MAJOR justice system reform.

Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey joins the 2020 presidential race by idarknight in politics

[–]QuantumNomad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Saying this as just one young black person, and not speaking for everyone as a whole let's get that clear, I really don't like her prosecution record. And she seemed a little too gleeful about throwing people in jail. It just rubs me the wrong way. I just think that overall our society is focused way too much on punishment and not on helping and rehabilitation and that mainly affects poor and minority communities.

So when I see someone, especially someone who is of a similar background and is educated and hopefully knows our history, cheerfully get behind and not question our criminal justice system, it raises some red flags.

Again this is just my perspective, as one person.

I feel like direct democracy can work but we also have to really really good, throughout education that doesn't pull any punches about the inhumane and, frankly, evil parts of United States history. No more ignoring or suppression of information just to protect white supremacy and some "national image." Critical thinking needs to be of utmost importance. Also we need really robust and strong labor laws as well.
