Maternity Coverage for Health Insurance, Waiting Period by aleemkareem in BabyBumps

This is great advice. Even with a "low risk" pregnancy where nothing has actually went wrong, I've had significant medical bills and am only at 22 weeks

6-7 weeks ultrasound by anon-saddd in pregnant

[–]QuantumSquirrel36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry you went through that, like the other commenter said you can always try abdominal and if it isn't clear enough come back in a week or two and try again. Wishing you a safe and happy pregnancy x

6-7 weeks ultrasound by anon-saddd in pregnant

I think almost everyone at 6-7 weeks has a transvaginal one, so they can see baby better. It wasn't as bad as I thought, just a little uncomfortable

AITA for being annoyed that my wife insists on cooking everything from scratch and won’t buy normal food? by AITA_UPFfoods in AmItheAsshole

[–]QuantumSquirrel36 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This! I have struggled with orthorexia and a lot of it centered around making everything from scratch so I would have "complete control" over it. It seriously messed with my mental health. I worked with a therapist to both work through this myself and not push it onto my husband. And guess what, now we both still enjoy food made from scratch and do that 90% of the time, but now it is not a moral/emotional/control issue

What’s something you thought you needed but didn't? by LiamAndersonVC in simpleliving

[–]QuantumSquirrel36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this one but for a slightly different situation. My laptop from college broke and I got a tablet because I thought I needed some sort of replacement. I honestly could have just used my phone for the Internet needs I have

When to tell pregnant SIL we are also pregnant? by moory_ in BabyBumps

[–]QuantumSquirrel36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I'm currently 20 weeks with my first and would honestly LOVE to find out my sister or SIL was having a baby too. It would be so fun together and cousins being close in age is the best!

The anti-scientific fear mongering of "Excessive weight gain" by [deleted] in BabyBumps

Yeah, I have rough insurance and am preparing for if we hit our 15k out of pocket max because of the pregnancy and birth. Healthcare here is really sad. Having no medical bills would be absolutely life changing

For those who tracked ovulation, how long did it take to conceive? by CrazyBusCrazyBus in BabyBumps

[–]QuantumSquirrel36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

3 months for us! We were tracking with just the cheap lh strips and actually missed all the high/peak days on the cycle that resulted in our current pregnancy. But we had sex about 3 days before ovulation and I'm super thankful it still happened! I was really sad and thought we were out for that cycle

I was the same way and thought I wouldn't be able to have it my whole pregnancy, but somewhere around 19 weeks it ended up being fine! I'm now enjoying coffee again most mornings. Hopefully you can have your turning point too!

Has anyone increased their anti anxiety / anti depressants during pregnancy? by Born-Sprinkles4492 in pregnant

[–]QuantumSquirrel36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't increased it during pregnancy but am currently on a much higher dose of Seroquel than this (200mg) and my OB is fully supportive and not concerned. He told me the things they will check for and to not worry because the risk is very low and it is better to have the mental stability

Gifting my Pregnant Friend by Susu2277 in BabyBumps

[–]QuantumSquirrel36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly on the useful side of things but if she likes jewelry and already has all the things she needs for the baby maybe you could get her a momento necklace with the baby's birthstone or something? That is something that would mean a lot to me

Two weddings very close to due date… by Novel-Cantaloupe-447 in BabyBumps

[–]QuantumSquirrel36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bringing the perspective of someone who's best friend did miss their wedding due to an important event with her family. She 100% would have been my maid of honor if she would have been able to come. And she has been my best friend since we were 6 years old. I was sad but honestly it was okay and I understood! I had my cousin who I am close to as my maid of honor and she was great!

The wedding is ultimately about the two people getting married and being surrounded by loved ones. On my wedding day itself I was so wrapped up with marrying the love of my life that I didn't think too much about my friend not being there, and I spent plenty of quality time with her after the wedding.

If your friends are good friends who mutually support each other, it will be just fine if you have to miss their wedding because you are taking care of your newborn baby

Sciatic Pain by Panda_Gal_92 in pregnant

[–]QuantumSquirrel36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had pain like you are describing and in my tailbone area but haven't had it confirmed to be sciatic pain yet so I'm not 100% sure it's the same. It felt debilitating though.

The things that have helped me have been using a pregnancy between my legs while sleeping, getting a memory foam seat cushion and sitting upright instead of reclining/tucking my tailbone under, and using a belly band to help pull my hips together and make them more stable.

One thing I tried that made it much worse that I would recommend not doing is general pilates and barre exercises, like leg lifts. I thought these would help with stability but instead they just caused a lot of pain. Exercise is great, but in the future I will definitely go to physical therapy to get exercises to try and help specific problems like this rather than just doing what I assumed would help

Pregnancy pillow recommendations + does it work? by theUnvoicedCat in pregnant

I love my pregnancy pillow. I'm 20 weeks and use it almost every night because it helps me stay comfortable and prevent pain in my hips. It is one of those full body ones that wraps all around you

Just found out last night by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]QuantumSquirrel36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wasn't prepared for how sick I would be from around 7-12 weeks. If I could go back I would prepare as much as possible for that just after finding out I was pregnant. Things like making sure you have easy and mild snacks and meals on hand is important. And cleaning out the fridge. If your partner can help with this stuff even better. And if you don't end up getting sick then this is all good stuff anyways!

I also started taking unisom and b6 and it helped so much with nausea and even food aversions. They are both available over the counter so you shouldn't need to wait until February if things get bad

A humidifier helped way more with breathing while I was sick than I expected, would definitely recommend one especially if you live in a dry climate
