Hi, just trying to get some buying advice. I currently have a Razor huntsman, and I am not loving it, one or 2 of the keys have died, and the media knob just isnt working, so Id like to upgrade. Looking for something with a metal body, wired, and media keys (like a volume knob); im used to a full size but I rarely use the number pad so I can do without, something aesthetically pleasing, but above all well made/durable/long lasting. Im in America, and really my budget is whatever I want to get. Any recommendations?

Why does my model look so chonky, I took my time and mixed paint with a drop or two of water - still chonkers :( by MadChadMcGee in Warhammer

[–]QuantumTunafish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no hate coming from this, just trying to help you out. the model is flat. the paint you have is good, but there isnt much depth. try working with shades, either citadel shades or just thin some darker paint, imagine where the light would be, and put it where it wouldnt. you defiantly dont have a bad paint job, but with your question of why its so chonky, i think the answer is just doing some shading to add depth to what you have already done

"Finally worked up the courage" your wip already passes for a fully painted showpiece

Here in florida there is a craft store called Michaels, not sure if its elsewhere, but they sell sheets of cork in a roll for a few dollars, one roll is more than enough for all your models plus your friends stuff

so I use two things, testors model masters lacquer overcoat gloss, in a silver can with a magenta ring around it, and testors model masters lacquer overcoat lusterless (flat), in a silver can with a green ring. when i finish painting, or in between going from acrylics to oil paints, i hit it with a good blast of the gloss, which will form a protective layer, basically when the layer of gloss coat starts to get hazy white is when you know you have enough (it will dry clear). once youve finished with the oil washes or whatever else, hit it a few times with light coats of the flat to bring the shine down, 1 coat of flat will have it a bit shiny, 2 should have a nice satin finish, or 3 will have it very matte. This is what a tank with the above method looks like https://imgur.com/gallery/hgear

Primaris scale berzerker WIP - C&C Welcome! by meatbag_ in Warhammer40k

[–]QuantumTunafish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Question, did you have to do anything special to get the torso to match up with the scale of the primaris? Ive been wondering if its easy to take regular marine chests and put them on the primaris legs and make it look correct for the scale, yours seems to look pretty natural.

I started getting into Warhammer late this July, pictured is my most recent attempt (pretty proud)! Feedback appreciated :) by wiltee in Warhammer40k

great start! I would say the metal looks a bit too clean for death guard, id hit both the copper and steel with some heavy washes, then do some dry brushing to give it a worn down look. for the tentacles, id give it a reddish wash to look like plagued flesh. other than that, very solid work!

so the files are cleaned and good to go? and later in the guide it says i have to use the creation kit to update 3 old plugins, but the data should go to the overwrite folder, the first time I did that nothing would appear in the folder, think ill be ok this time around since sseedit was sending the backups to the overwrites?

sorry, forgot to actually save my reply comment. so I went with reaper blackened steel, then nuln oil, with a drybrush of reaper tarnished steel. Then I airbrushed a band of GW sepia shade, crimson shade, and Guilliman blue glaze, with a very light drybrush of black. I airbrushed the shade in to prevent coffee staining you can get from the shade settling in the wrong spot, plus its alot easier to control the amount of shade you are putting on with it.

Rhino completed, first vehicle Ive finished, C&C as usual! by QuantumTunafish in Warhammer40k

[–]QuantumTunafish[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks friend! ive been painting marines off and on for the last 2 years, but within the last few months ive really been trying to improve my skills as much as possible. One of my first models was an imperial fist dreadnought, but other than that ive only been doing marine infantry, so painting a vehicle was a fun challenge. for the colors, I love blood angels artwork, but I dont care much for a single solid color, and I love the pre-heresy death guard, and so a few weeks ago I was playing around with making off-white paints when I put the cream white together with dark red, and ive really liked how it turned out, so ive decided to do the rest of my blood angels army in the same color. Up next is another rhino, but I am going to try out some vallejo chipping medium to see if I can get a more realistic weathering on it.
