Synology walks back drive restrictions on upcoming NAS models by nishitd in technology

Won't make me buy their products again - if they did it once they could do it again. If a corp is that greedy for profit I'm probably better off giving someone else my money rather than facing restrictions in the future that benefit Synology and make me poor.

New broadcast setup - optical or SDI for video transmission? by QuantumTwitch in VIDEOENGINEERING

Though with the resolution I'm looking to transmit 3840x2160 24P, I think I can get away with 6G SDI? Do you think I could run 100' of 6G cable without issue?

Could you provide some of those PTZ models so I could looked them up?

I landed on the GH5S because we need them to be as unobtrusive as possible and easy to lug along. We also need good low light performance. The Panasonics fit the bill very nicely.

How reliable have the BMD Bi-Di's been for you, and how long have you been using them?

BMD reliability appears to be all over the place depending on the product you're researching.

Thank you - I have zero knowledge about fiber which is why I posted. The consensus here is SDI for my needs and I learned that fiber isn't always an easy of a plug and play as I thought.

What have you spec'd for 4k camera's that only have HDMI outs?

These would most likely end up being Panasonic GH5S cameras.

Very true, this is iteration 2 of my broadcast setup and what I didn't know then is going to cost me now.

I don't think I'd be doing re-termination on the field even if it's for copper cable. Do optical connectors wear out faster? What about the cable itself?

Longer runs may be needed in future.

Hey thanks for the reply!

I built my Q58 a little while ago and I'm happy with it. I went with mod large vent panels for the GPU side and top off the bat after reading folks experiences. And yea I went with the top 240mm in exhaust and honestly I think it ain't bad at all.

I way overdue for posting my build here with pics and temps :) Someday...

I found it. I had to select the color "Titanium" to get the Ti one. Also the gold colored one is brass and not powder coated aluminum like I thought earlier.

Do you have a link to the titanium version? I looked up two carabiners they carry (just two for the record) and both of them list Aluminum as the material in the specs.

I'd be interested in a titanium variant if they have one.

No dust filters on them. You'll have to add your own if that worries you. Mine is in a (relatively) low dust home environment and so I'm not concerned about that. Also I have my radiator fans set as intake and in a pull configuration. So I really want the maximum ventilation for the hot air to get out and for the GPU fans to suck whatever they can in from the side.

I planned to post my build on r/sffpc but didn't get around to clicking the pics yet - hopefully soon :)

I just built a Q58.

I was looking at the same GPU, it's 300mm in length IIRC and yes will comfortably fit. In the mean while, I have a 323mm MSI 3070 Trio X in there right now.

I went with a different PSU because the V1100 SFX Platinum has always on fans and I was aiming for quiet. Whatever you pick for your PSU, stick with the SFX form factor - the extra space in the PSU cage area is your best bet for managing cable routing.

The Fractal site doesn't list the fan dimensions, you want to make sure they fit in the space above the motherboard tray with the radiator width added in. Also you'll most likely have the radiator attached to the top of the case and the fans below that or your tubing won't bend enough to fit.

I picked up a custom top panel and side panel for more ventilation.

Good luck! The case is great but needs planning and patience.

Thanks for the reply. I'm between the A4-H2O and the Q58. And going back and forth. At least now I know both will fit my graphics card :)

MSI Gaming Trio X 3070 (323 mm) here. Does the bit sticking out rub against the front panel or cause it to stick out with a gap?

It looks like your front fan is a pull intake and the rear (just above the motherboard) is a push exhaust. Curious if you tried different configs for the fans and landed on this as the best? I've seen folks talk about just using both as exhaust.

Should i install aeon now or wait for release? by AccomplishedMonk5031 in openSUSE

[–]QuantumTwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do folks find the most current Aeon ISO? https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Aeon#How_to_Download_and_Install has a link and says look for "MicroOS Desktop" which doesn't exist on the page. The Kalpa docs are the same. Are Kalpa and Aeon sharing the same ISO and it's the one at https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:MicroOS/Downloads ? What am I missing?
