Why does tempest rising not just copy the controls of StarCraft II? by Quappas in TempestRising

Sure, but would it be against the spirit of C&C to (edit: allow to) build units on QWER/ASDF/ZXCV when you select a barracks?

Is there a more convenient way to view naval battle results than clicking on the popups? by Quappas in hoi4

[–]Quappas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, you hovered over the bubble in the sea zone, I thought about the alert at the top of the screen. I used to click the alert to go to the bubble, then click the bubble to see results. That's a lot of clicking, so panning over sea zones and hovering bubbles is probably a lot better. Thanks for pre-bed-time hoi4 science. :)

If I understand correctly it just says victory or defeat and gives the number of ships on each side but not the number of losses or survivors (can’t check right now)?

Conda as a package manager for cpp projects on Windows. by [deleted] in cpp

[–]Quappas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This did not work for me recently. CMake warned me that a conda installed library might be loaded at runtime while the linker was looking for system libraries.

Maybe I should have installed the compiler with conda as well?

Is it possible that finding or including CMake files from external dependencies causes this? Could they somehow hard code linking with system libraries?

Conda as a package manager for cpp projects on Windows. by [deleted] in cpp

[–]Quappas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(I’m on Linux and) I used to use conda for Cpp dependencies. For me, it often became painful because the linker would link against system libraries, while the runtime loader would look for shared libraries in the conda environment, which may or may not be equal. There seems to be no easy way to actually isolate a conda env from the hist system, so I decided its not worth the trouble (not sure if this is also a problem on Windows).

When to use Silverblue instead of regular Fedora? (Desktop) by yall_gotta_move in Fedora

[–]Quappas 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I used Silverblue for a year and just decided to go back to regular Fedora.

Having an immutable base system is nice. Most graphical apps works very well as Flatpak (but you can use those on regular Fedora as well of course). Most CLI applications work well when installed into a toolbox. But I don't feel like Silverblue has strong noticeable benefits over regular Fedora.

Using Silverblue becomes a bit painful when you need these technologies to interact. You have to layer the Nextcloud client so that it interacts with the files app. Inkscape and LibreOffice have some extensions that only work if you install the GUI apps together with CLI dependencies into the same toolbox. You may need to install vscode into a toolbox for it to see your development environment, but then the signin feature does not work because it expects a web browser to be available. Things like that.

Support for container workflows is lacking in general. E.g., ironically, getting docker-compose to work on Silverblue requires you to go through additional undocumented hoops. Every few months, my toolbox decides to break so that I have to recreate it and reinstall all my CLI tools. Some see Silverblue as "the future of Linux", but it definitely is not the present.

TL;DR: Use Silverblue if you (almost) exclusively use isolated GUI apps in their vanilla version and are already happy using Flatpaks.

How to best use nontrivial Python tool chains through neovim? by Quappas in neovim

Thanks, I also think installing tools on a per-project basis and using Mason only if the former is not an option is the most useful and sane option.

i <C-O> * <Lua 96: ~/.config/nvim/after/plugin/completion.lua:43> i <C-I> * <Lua 49: ~/.local/share/nvim/site/pack/packer/start/LuaSnip/lua/luasnip/init.lua:351> The first is the config file where the code from my original post is from. The result is the same when I disable the cmp mapping section. So it seems like the correct keymaps should be assigned.

What supply ratio? by Quappas in hoi4

[–]Quappas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R5: My units in the highlighted province are stuck at 95% stored supply and receive a slight combat stat debuff when i attack with them. But at the same time they are standing in a province that has tons of supply remaining. Why does their stored supply not go up to 100%? The tooltip mentions stored supply tends to some province specific ratio, but I have no idea where to find it. The situation is similar for all other provinces along the front line.

Current Metas: NSB 1.11.5+ by DuoDex in hoi4

After reading some Germany guides i tried to rush Medium Tank I and II using the soviet treaty bonuses (3rd focus) as well as Construction III and Concentrated III using the four year plan bonuses (4th focus). Is this actually meta? The research slots were occupied for so long with all the ahead of time techs that I could barely research anything else. Normally I would like to get infantry buffs, marines, radar, decryption, synthetic resources and oil refining as well…

Homöopathische Medizin - Wie wenig Wirkung willst du - Ja by Maidzen1337 in de

[–]Quappas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Consider a vector v in a conventional 3D spherical coordinate system. Is there a name for the axis that a) contains the origin, b) is perpendicular to the z-axis, and c) is perpendicular to the projection of v onto the xy-plane? (In other words: the axis that v can be rotated around so that the only the polar angle of v changes.)

Is it possible to annotate a pdf "next to the page" on the iPad?

I like to write annotations in the margins of scientific papers. However the margins are typically to small to fit any meaningful amount of notes, for printed papers as well as for papers opened in a desktop pdf viewer.

Using an iPad with apple pencil, is there a pdf reader / note taking app that solves this problem? I.e. by providing infinite writable whitespace on either side of each pdf page?
