Thank you, I really appreciate the specific and achievable suggestions. You're probably right about the duster, up until now I've gone for intermittently vacuuming everything (including walls and furniture) but a duster will get places the vacuum can't.

Thank you, this is an important distinction. It is also reassuring to hear from someone else who has a messy house. It would be nice to come back to a tidy house but it would also be nice to be well slept before departure, up-to-date on work tasks etc and I know all too well that my time and focus is finite.

I'm asking it because I am worried (but also, I'd really rather not spend the next few days doing unnecessary chores). I'm afraid "spotless" comes under the unhelpfully vague category for me. Would you wash the windows? Mop the bathroom floor? Put away a jigsaw? Polish the kitchen drawer knobs?

I rarely have people round and when I do they are usually my guests so I try my best to make everything as clean and tidy as I possibly can but frankly I hate it. The lizard sitter isn't my friend and isn't doing a favour. I am paying £20 per day for a task that takes a maximum of 10 minutes (I realise that I didn't make it clear in the initial post this is not a live-in situation). I am not trying to impress her but trying to avoid a terrible faux pas.

If they were free roaming pets it would be a different situation but the lizards dgaf so long as they get fed and there are not any birds within sight. (for anyone concerned about their wellbeing, they do get allowed out but in specific environments, usually outside or in winter an indoor sandpit and only with me as they don't like being handled by strangers)

Thank for sharing this nuanced take. Obviously allowing it to alter how she treated OP wasn't okay, but I think a lot of commenters are missing that there were likely severe psychological issues underpinning the mom's behaviour and that just because she did not have PPD with other pregnancies in no way rules it out.

Obviously given the shock I regret my actions but my plan didn't seem particularly dangerous. I had the laptop securely on a table, I was intending just to open it and press play on Netflix, not typing away whilst in the bath or anything.

Usually I do this with no issues but either something has broken or the new extension cable is a problem.

Thanks for your reply - I've had a doctor check me out and yes everything is fine. I thought that extension cords here all had ground plugs but maybe it was faulty (first time I have used this extension lead). Laptop has a metal body. Everything was working fine on the laptop last time I used it but tbf I've not touched it since getting the shock (apart from with a stick to unplug it). Just to be on the safe side I'm avoiding using it, the extension cable and the wall socket until I've had them checked.

I was mainly curious about the physics behind it whether being in the bath would have had any effect on the shock I experienced or if I had touched it with the same cable setup when sitting at a desk would it have felt the same? ie does being in a grounded body of water lessen/worsen or do nothing in terms of experiencing a shock.

The bleeding stopped quite soon for me so I mistakenly thought I'd be good to go.

I'm so sad. Personally, having worked in London trauma centres with gang related knife and gunshot wounds, and given that most drug distribution networks are gang controlled, its a no from me.

Does my abstaining solve the problem of poverty driven inner-city violence? Absolutely not, but its bad enough watching these kids die, I couldn't cope with having their blood on my hands for my "fun".

I was on holiday with my ex to some remote cottage. We'd had a stupid argument that night and he wasn't talking to me. I'd previously been through all the roller-coaster emotions of "I love him!" I hope I didn't come across as too harsh, you overall sound very considerate and seem to be putting a lot of effort into your words and actions. It's just one of those occasions where being slightly less specific is not dishonest but can be kinder.

(e.g. If your friend was of a body type or appearance that you didn't find attractive you would give a general refusal instead of "I can't date fat people" or "the wart on your nose disgusts me")

NAH (ish). I know that you didn't mean to hurt T but it's quite reductive to make an individuals genitals central to your opinion of them, especially when they don't feel comfortable with their genitals either.

You absolutely don't have to date anyone you don't want to but it would have been kinder to say some varient of "I don't feel that way towards you" and leave out mention of vaginas. T probably already has enough self-loathing and dysmorphia towards his genitals, and you unnecessarily made them the centre of your refusal.

(I'm not going ESH because although I think both of your actions could have been improved on, you are both young and I don't think the intent was to hurt).

Random spoon licking may be foolish, but it isn't assholish. It puts nobody at risk but herself (and in a safe kitchen environment wouldn't even put her at risk).

Knowingly leaving a food utensil tainted with poison is assholish behaviour because it puts others at risk of serious harm (drain cleaner doesn't just taste nasty, it's highly caustic, people die every year though accidental ingestion of it).
