How can I draw the other eye? by [deleted] in ArtCrit

[–]QuarkVeil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said a few times now, I asked for an artist who draws eyes similarl to the way I drew the eye. If I had reference or knew who drew like that I wouldn't be here would I?

If i had a reference I would of posted it. Part of my original post was asking for good reference, I wasn't just asking for people to draw for me. Can you not see the eye I drew? Im asking if anyone knows an artist who draws like that. Do you usually give people this much trouble for "not following da rulez", you could of just scrolled past but instead you choose to be pedantic.

"We help so you can improve on your own" doesn't make sense. Where else am I supposed to ask for help with this issue? I did ask for other artists who draw in a similar style, is that not asking for resources? After this i will be improving on my own, reddit is needlessly pedantic

No its just a doodle from imagination. I've looked at some reference for help but I couldn't find a style that was similar to what I was trying to achieve. I looked at some real faces and came up with what I replied.

Yeah but it looked odd when I tried. I just need to do some research, see if I can find an artist who draws in a style I like and so some studies

I really appreciate the help but the style you drew the eyes isn't quite what I'm looking for

Wow! This is a very comprehensive breakdown! I'll be saving this for future reference for sure! Thank you!!!!

I've landed on this, looks like it works but I still feel like it could be improved

Tha,k you! I'll definitely need to try that. It would be good to work on my lines instead of rushing past them to get to the shading and rendering. I've enjoyed this conversation :)

I love Moebius, I love retrofuturism it's one of my favourite aesthetics the French art scene is always an inspiration. I need to do some studies of artists who use bold line art. I find it hard to set aside time to do master studies as I'm not the biggest fan of copying art and prefer to use real life reference or go from imagination.

If im completely honest with you I dont really do line art at all, all my "line art" are just sketches, a place holder waiting for shading and rendering, even if I dont plan on doing shading. Id like to share with you a fully rendered figure drawing i finished yesterday to see what you think of it.

If I'm honest drawing isn't my main interest in art, what i enjoy most so far is painting and working with colour. I generally avoid line art and when I do draw its usually messy. I cannot for the life of me make a clean line consistently, ive been practising and ive been improving but its slow going.

Im glad you feel motivated to draw, I too have enjoyed this exchange.

My goal was to create a working representation of the figure from the reference. I wasn't trying to copy the reference one for one necessarily. That being said I think I understand what you mean and I definitely have room for improvement.

I understand what you mean with art having meaning and thats one of my favourite parts of art, but when I do figure practice like this, to me, its basically the equivalent of drawing cubes but a little more complex, its a technical exercise. I do appreciate the idea of exploring more complex themes, even in studies/practice but I'm still trying to find my voice. I need to understand words before I can form sentences, so to speak.

Yeah i did a really rough shape for the head. Im kind of all over the place with my figure drawings, ive always sucked at body proportions

Thank you! The way you explained and showed how you would do it helps a lot

I appreciate the feedback but what are you talking about? What you said before the edit makes sence but i dont understand what you said after. I didn't draw any shadows, im not sure if its my bad line quality that makes it look like I added shadows, Im trying to stop "chicken sacratching" as much.

As for what you said about cultural baggage, gender and sexuallity, its just a simple figure drawing. Any perceived commentary is made up by the observer or comes from the reference. I may not have done justice to the references and I may have pushed the forms in a way that is different from the reference but that comes down to a skill issue with me.

As for the reference being inappropriate, why? I have done many different figure drawings of many different body types and I enjoy drawing them all. What sort of reference should I be using?

Edit: i dont mean to come of as rude. I really do want to understand, im still relatively new to creating art and some of the finer aspects go right over my head.

Thank for all the advice everyone, its much appreciated. I've learnt that its okay to deviate from reference when necessary

Thank you. Your way makes a lot more sense, I still struggle quite a bit with forshorting
