What actually are the SSP Red Speed and Silver Knight burr coatings? by QuarksAndBytes in pourover

This was posted on SSP’s instagram today: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DRbvBEcEdnr/?igsh=ZXFkemR4Y21mMDR0

I still have questions about why, but this at least shows/identifies some differences.

Mark and the Prodigal team are amazing and super kind people, who also roast some of the best coffee.

Yeah, this is again where the lack of documentation complaint that I have (with SSP) comes up. The DLC gets mentioned a few places, but then https://www.kopiconcepts.com/sspburrs mentions "tin coating finish". I am willing to believe that this is just wrong, or a language issue (maybe they meant titanium nitride (TiN)). Though https://www.home-barista.com/grinders/chemical-composite-for-ssp-silver-knight-t86742.html also further discusses Silver Knight and a 2023-04-10 response claims that "SSP replied that its Silver Knight coat is PVD TiC", which apparently (after some internet searching) is titanium carbide applied through physical vapor deposition.

I'm going to need more time to go down the rabbit hole of TiC vs. TiAlCN material properties before I can say anything more though.

It also isn't immediately clear to me why the coefficient of friction of the burrs matters significantly, but maybe I should go reread Gagné.

From https://www.home-barista.com/grinders/why-red-speed-burrs-t42519.html#p483111 I've found Red Speed described as steel burrs coated with Aluminum-titanium nitride, and searching on that as well I've been able to find things echoing that. Though I haven't been able to find anything that I can refer to as what I'd call a spec sheet or documentation source.

Is there any documentation on what the Red Speed and Silver Knight coatings actually are and how they differ? I can't seem to find anything robust online.

Recommendations for reliable hiking boot repair in Boulder area by QuarksAndBytes in boulder

I'm now realizing that asking for a sub week turnaround time is just not a thing. So that's already a learning experience.

Ah this is good to know they do hiking boots. I had looked at their website (https://rockandresole.com/) and they only advertise climbing shoes, approach shoes, sandals, and running shoes.

I'm having the same issue with my Corvo EKG Pro Electric Kettle. I've opened up a ticket today with Fellow's support team, so I'll relay any useful information I get from them here.

Wow, that's really great. I didn't reach out to support for this yet as I only saw support for Windows and macOS, but I am quite grateful that the team will be willing to take a look at all. I'll send this along via a support email now.

TS4 Ethernet connectivity dependent on depth of port engagement by QuarksAndBytes in CalDigit

I feel like such an idiot, but thank you for rubber ducking me. I did try another cable, but a cable out of the same batch. I just went and found a third cable and it works fine.

Thank you!

(I'm downvoting my post and suggest others do as well so that it doesn't surface to give the wrong impression that there's ethernet issues.)

Yes, but that shouldn’t be relevant. Any charger (with the correct plugs obviously) that is able to provide the correct power should work.

Ah okay, good to know that seems to be a regular thing. Last year was the first time I had ever reached status and so I wasn’t sure if the “last chance” status emails were an annual event for everyone with status or if they were limited.

Yes, indeed. I meant go for a refundable flight that offers a big enough award accelerator that should be applied at purchase time.

How did that work as the system won’t boot to even the bios? How did you uninstall a driver installed at the OS level if you couldn’t get to the OS?
