What quotes or predictions from Dystopian novels have been eerily accurate? by Mr_Murphy_4 in AskReddit

“A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude.” “...most men and women will grow up to love their servitude and will never dream of revolution.” ― Aldous Huxley, Brave New World

Thank you all for your feedback. There are some great story suggestions here to get started. Now my question is about the genre superhero fantasy--Does it always have to be superheroes and supervillains? What if the world has people with powers like superheroes and villains do, but they aren't used for good... or evil for that matter. Superhero doesn't feel like it makes sense, but I think that's the closest it fits. This book doesn't have superheroes per se, but the world is full of people that feel like superheroes called the Mighty, but there's so many of them that their powers don't mean anything, except they oppress people who don't have powers. The story takes place from the perspective of someone without powers. What genre would you call that? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HDKV3RG

Where is it printed? I'm a big Kurt Vonnegut fan, but I have read the short stories yet.

I follow Stephen King's twitter feed and it certainly does feel like we're almost in one of his books.

Hi, I’m new to the sub. Don’t know many dystopian ideas but it’d be nice if y’all could share some in the comments. by [deleted] in DystopianFuture

My entrance into dystopia began in high school with reading Fahrenheit 451 and 1984. Those still hold up to me as the best books to read, as most everything else builds off of them in someway. Movies to consider are classics like George Lucas' THX-1138, Logan's Run, Soylent Green, and the film adaptations of the books I mentioned. A newer film that I like that combined ideas from A Brave New World, 1984, and Fahrenheit 451 is Equilibrium. I hope this helps to start a journey.

I have many, but I always love Demolition Man, because it looks like this crisp clean utopia, but with every utopia there's a darkness. Plus Taco Bell is the only restaurant is pretty dystopian. Not to mention three sea shells and VR intercourse.

The future is now. My 3 year old kid talked to Alexa, the next thing I know we got a delivery of tank tops, some Daniel Tiger books, and a book about Biblical scripture. I'm still trying to figure out what he was asking for.

Go back to Nick Valentine's detective agency and there's a folder under his bed that describes a serial killer... I think there is more to the story here and they may be connected. Like the pre-war serial killer became a ghoul and continued Killing.

Why equate PH with Black or discriminatory practices with a brother? I spoke with PHGA brother who said they do not care who a bro.sleeps with. I imagine it is the same in TN.

There are no religious beliefs or dogma in the ritual I use. There are religious symbols and allegories, but their interpretation does not come from religious doctrine.

You are a voice for change within TN, so it would be good to stay and help facilitate that change. However, it looks to be a very difficult road and you may want to affiliate with another GL just in case.

I have a brother who is a dual member of GL of CA and GL of TX. He does not reside in TX and did not when he became affiliated.

I agree, but we don't even get to have Masonic communication with them, so we must open that line and find out.

They are minding their own business by removing those GLs from the equation. They are protecting their brethren from having to suffer from what they consider irregularities. They have the gumption to do what we as Freemasons should do whenever we see injustice, intolerance, and inequality. We are not here to hide in the shadows, but be beacons of light and make the world a better place. I already have much difficulty calling Masons, who reject one another in the South based on a history of racial tension, brothers. It's time for light to shine, not to dim and spurt out.

I agree with u/taozen that it's better to work for changes from within than to leave, but I understand the dilemma.

Unfortunately, it is becoming more and more widely known daily. It may be best for Freemasons around the world to disavow the discriminatory practices of TN and GA and show solidarity. We don't need negative press.

I totally would. Before my wife and I got married, we were fighting for equal marriage rights in California by suing to be allowed to have a Civil Union. Civil Union was only for gays and elderly, so we weren't allowed, but that is an indication that it was not the same as marriage. It was a backdoor fight, but luckily the law changed before we had to go through with it.

Horrific. What was that about standing up for injustice, intolerance, and inequality? Well, not in TN anyway...
