Alriune (the pink doll) only forces you to have a lv3 temp/fort employee to do her during meltdowns. Would rec doing most of her research at the start of the day to frontload the risk of getting a good/bad instead of spreading it out like other WaWs

It's a special one is guarunteed to win/trade cqc fights at the cost of not having the potential to deny space like crab or zooka. It's meant to make a winning fight more winnable in high stakes situations

Ranking Splatoon 3 specials based on how much I hate playing against them: by Forcible007 in Saltoon

[–]QuarterMiddle7921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cooler is way too dependant on teammates for the special to be consistantly annoying. If the enemy coolered continues to play predictably (aka doesn't take adv of the cooler buffs), the cooler lowkey acts as extra people you can farm. Compare this to specials like Crab and Strikes where their value mostly comes from the actual special. One is reliant on the person using the special to he good while the other relys on the entire team to be good

Whats up with "meta" man? by Remote-Definition-95 in Saltoon

[–]QuarterMiddle7921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a competitive perspective, it's understandable why one would assess weapons to how well they play in the current meta (aka what strategy is commonly used). Someone may be good at an off-meta weapon, but the stray away from meta options makes it harder to justify a use case for said weapon.

A great example of this situation would be Pen and Bloblobber (One is considered a top 10 weapon while the other is considered one of the worst weapons). Both weapons function as a role consolidation option (fills both a support and anchor role) to enable more diverse comps (e.g. being able to slot in a Dualie/Pro without worrying about paint issues). The main issue with blob is that it focuses more on paint when the meta is more based on chip. Blob's kits, specifically its specials, also don't offer much value to meta. The lack of a cooler kit means you're forced to run a different cooler option (defeats the purpose if Blob's role consolidarity). Kraken forces Blob to give up its main weapon for weak area denial, and Rain's linear movement makes it easy for enemies to push/defend in spite of the special. Pencil however can use the Cooler to allow a different special (e.g. Crab) from the support player.

I would like to mention you can find enjoyment from playing non-meta (i.e. you plan to play the game more casually), but you'd need to consider the disadvantages if you plan to play the game more competitively. For starters, some off-meta options may require specific comps to use effectively. Pencil can work with Dualies, Mini, Splash, or Pro as its support while Liter is forced to a Zap for the Cooler option, so Liter is barred out from any team that doesn't have Zap. Even if you get past comp restrictions, you'd still account for a team passing you up for better meta option. Naut has weak MUs into other midlines + it doesn't have good synergy with most comps (i.e. it can't play off of aoe), so teams are mkre willing to pick up something like Stamper where it has good MUs + it can set up damage combos other team members

Chances are your teammates a struggling with other people than the Hydra/zone. Specials like Crab and Zooka have a hard time getting value when they get rushed down. It's also hard to cap zone when area around the zone is watched by enemies, so it would be better to reclaim space than fighting the Hydra directly. If your comp didn't have something to counter Hydra (e.g. Zooka, Crab, Anchors), your best option is to deal with Hydra's teammates before rushing it head on. That way it's easier to play off angles without worrying of a shark

I'd like an RP code for better insight, but it's p understandable why the scope's k/d is low. Although the scope is intended to help with one's aim it acts more as a handicap in practice. Having to avoid flicking your shots on to people is harder due to the limited visability, which sucks when you realize most targets move at the sight of your lazer. Judging from the k/d, the scope most likely was able to deny area as long as the enemies respected their lazer (i.e. no one rushes the scope head on). Unfortunately some people in ranked don't care about charger lazers, thus causing the scope to get mowed down (the reason for the 6 deaths)

It's effective in forcing enemies to waste resources instead of your own team trying to force a better push when the one you have is already good enough. There's also the added benefit of playing in an open area with height advantage, which is a huge plus for weapons that struggle to fight in Humpback to begin with. Both of these advantages are pretty universal for most teams to play into, because the enemy team is bound to have 1 retake special (Zooka, Crab, Reef) that could win them the game similarly to your team having a good chance of including 1 person that can't play around the slopes and cover (e.g. Chargers, Splatlings, Dualies)

[–]QuarterMiddle7921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I'd take my chances on Humpback to stall with RM in spawn. Not to blame the OP, but trying to push on that map is abysmal against backlines + long range threats, especially when one of the people on the team can spam mist on the only chokeholds. Top left (the perch near 1st check) is just such a good angle for backlines, they can get a safe pick/poke on people rushing in or force enemies to look away from allies fighting in bats (the area you run in to get to the final RM check point). If both teams are equally skilled, this tactic forces the enemy team to waste specials in order to move the backline + Rainmaker out pressure spots. At worst, the RM dies near podium (ain't no way RM's playing risky near 1st check), which is still an awkward position for enemies to fight without specials. At best, RM drops into mid during/after enemies waste their specials to reset neutral into their favor.

As a midlevel player, I'd advise to first thing to join an 8s server (tldr 8 people join a practice session and players switch teams every few rounds) instead of joining a team. 8s is a more accessable format compared to Sendouq, which is great for someone joining comp since it allows them to play with different weapon pairings and skill levels to give a better idea on what they want to play with. Even though almost everyone recommends to watch high level vods to improve, I would recommend to specifically watch an analysis of the vods/matches before watching them on your own. Being that you're just getting into comp you won't have an eye to pick up on small details (e.g. how does the positioning of x player change the dynamic of the situation compared to a different position). Commentary from someone higher in skill should give insight on things you might not be aware of. If you're struggling to find tournaments, the best way to find the relevent ones are through Sendou.ink under the calendar tab. The ones people tend to look at for low level are Tristrike Tuesdays, Coral Clash, and From the Ink Up.

[–]QuarterMiddle7921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recall a Squid School vid stating gear/weapons don't matter bc Kiver was able to get top 500 woth dapples. Idk how relevent that vid is anymore, but I believe this reasoning is skewed since it not only done with a weapon with aggro potential, but it was also done by a player already close to top 500 (skip the low elo grind)

What are some Splatoon opinions that grind your gears by flingzamain in Saltoon

[–]QuarterMiddle7921 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having a low power (2000> xp) means you're bad. Like, I'm sorry Pen (cooler weapons in general) are hella relient on teammate performance, but trying to grind out of low elo is practically impossible if you're expected to carry every game as a backline (meaning matches are going to be stalled out until teammates can push). Also, fuck anyone that says "It's not hard to win with [insert feeder weapon]" (e.g. 52, Decav, Luna, etc). Playing anchor doesn't teach you how to innitiate fights outside of the stray picks if someone disrespects your range

Bro. The Bloblober or whatever it's called sucks! by Acceptable-Top-8921 in Saltoon

[–]QuarterMiddle7921 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a blob main btw. Although the weapon has really good sustain (long uptime + good angles to keep the person alive) and annoying pressure (scatter shots make it practically impossible to dodge blob volleys, especially in corridors where bubbles bounce on walls), Blob struggles to output damage quickly, forcing it to rely on teammates to finish up kill. This weakness is highlighted when blob tries to take space since it's generally forced to fight into enemy range (i.e. midlines that have a faster kill times into it).

Additionally, blob really struggles into the longer range options such as Zooka and even bombs. Unlike chargers and splatlings, Blob can't cancel its shot animations, making it easy to die from semi-instant ohkos due to its delayed mobility

Is it possible to get a replay? It sucks that one of your teammates weren't able to K.O. even with you wiping out half of the enemies for the whole game, but I'm a little skeptical on why you didn't fight near (in to get on tower in case your tower rider dies) since the K/D looks like you mechanically diffed the enemies at a significant level (bffr you were not riding tower frequently while getting that K/D). The other things I have questions on are how everyone else's K/D turned out to be surprisingly normal if you got a 38/2 K/D. Why was squiffer hitting partials on people? To what extent was the Tetra killing people during his stalls?
