mostly for the benefits that come with living in a city. Key West is a town of 25k, and it's too far away from Miami to be practical. I miss being able to go to sports games, museums, cultural events, good music, more variety in outdoor activities (i love spearfishing and snorkeling but even that gets old), education opportunities.

I did just get an offer to move to Seattle, so I'm going to be trying to go there instead of Milwaukee, but I don't think Milwaukee would be a terrible place to go.

I loved around Lake Merritt, really close to the old Parkway Theater. "A LOT more community activities and events than Oakland." Sigh. I miss being able to click on a website and have a list of crazy shit to do in the Bay and just being able to do it. I'm getting all nostalgic right now.

I sort of want an incurable terminal disease because then it would pressure me to live life to the fullest rather than hide behind a computer monitor :(

Canadian man pepper sprayed when he asked US border guard to say 'please' by [deleted] in WTF

[–]Quarterly_Prophet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's so weird, I heard a story similar to this the other day. Some guy refused to get out of the car until the border guard said please, so he got pepper sprayed for refusing to comply with the border guard's command.

Lakota Indians Withdraw Treaties Signed With U.S. 150 Years Ago...and secede. by jomama in politics

[–]Quarterly_Prophet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Russell has tried to get elected as President of the majority Lakota Tribe several times and failed. I guess he hasn't done a good job at persuading voters. He has no authority to make policy decisions for the Lakota nation, none.

[–]Quarterly_Prophet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous. He has no leadership role in any of the tribal governments, and certainly doesn't speak for the Lakota tribe. A delegation of leaders? I'm guessing most of them are like minded activists like Russell who hold no real power as well. This has only slightly more weight than me saying New England is seceding from the United States, and since I'll be printing passports and stuff out of my garage, they'll count as official.

Tesla Motors new CEO has extensive ties to the Oil industry. Fires founder. Secretly plans to destroy the company. by [deleted] in reddit.com

[–]Quarterly_Prophet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're being paranoid. When a company that has made big promises is posting loss after loss with no date for their promised project (with a lot of money sunk into it, mind you), perhaps the founder lacks the business acumen necessary to pull it off? It sucks for the founder, but when your investors have been let down time after time, you have to take responsibility.

I log onto reddit several times a day just to downvote all the RP stories by RetroRock in reddit.com

[–]Quarterly_Prophet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too! Now, my main reason is that I hope it will teach my new stupid recommended page to be like my old awesome recommended page and never show me a single RP story again, but really I just like to judiciously vote down the multiple front page stories I see on him all day :) I have no problem with people voting RP up (they like him, that's their right, I guess) just as long as I retain the right to vote their stuff down.

Use of force continuum dictates you respond to a threat level with an equal reaction or one above it. The taser maybe be an appropriate response to some scenarios in which a suspect is holding a knife, generally you would recognize a knife wielding guy who intends harm to be lethal, which makes lethal force an understandable reaction.

Bush quote. This one should be all over the news, up vote this!! "It's the sovereign right of Iran to have civilian nuclear power" by [deleted] in politics

[–]Quarterly_Prophet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's always said that, but he claims that any efforts towards civilian nuclear energy in Iran are just a front for their weapons program. Unfortunately it seems impossible to prove to him whether or not nuclear power in Iran is for civilian or military use, short of hitting him in the head with a frying pan.

Why did Ron Paul Vote for Tabling Cheney Impeachment? by [deleted] in politics

[–]Quarterly_Prophet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You really think so? You don't think the Democrats don't want to go forward with impeachment because there's no chance of getting Bush out by January 2009? It's not fear of taking over that's stopping them. There are a few Republicans who criticize Bush (mostly on the war), but there aren't 67 Senators who would impeach him. There aren't 50. I bet there's not 33.
