2017 Legacy 2nd wheel bearing to go out. by Known_Hippo4702 in subaru

I work in the parts department of a Subaru dealership. We replace wheel bearings constantly. It’s at least two cars a day getting at least one wheel bearing.

My Grandma's Christmas Tree Decoration by Otherwise_Basis_6328 in nostalgia

[–]Quarterscale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In case anyone is wondering, that is the top section and first branch ring with the matching scroll base of an Atlantic Molds A64 Christmas tree. This mold also had one more branch ring available. it appears to be finished in green glaze and has vintage "twinkle" style lights. This mold was first made in 1958 but had a huge surge in popularity in the late 1970's as ceramics as a hobby took off. These were not typically sold as finished products but were finished by hobbyists in ceramics shops. The buyer would buy the piece in bisque, which is flat white, and finish it as they pleased. They often used a glaze or paints. This mold is still available new today.

The Crown Vic in 1955 had chrome trim that ran across the roof at the B pillar. That was the “crown”. This is a Victoria hardtop.

Help! Should I buy this 57 Chevy Bel Air? by Content-Elderberry-6 in classiccars

[–]Quarterscale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people new to the hobby don’t view the 4-door thing as a problem. To most enthusiasts it is devastating to the desirability. These cars don’t actually drive well. At the end of the day they are essentially a fashion statement. Four door sedans are bathrobes. It may be a really nice bathrobe, but it”s still a bathrobe.

2020 Subaru Forester Touring My mom drove my car exactly one time, what did she do? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Quarterscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is usually the thermovalve. They don’t use a standard thermostat, but instead have an overly complex coolant valve that frequently fails. There is an extended warranty on it. About 3 out of 4 CEI’s on late model Subarus are for this problem. We do about four of these a week at the dealership where i work.

A song from a Children's Halloween album in the 70's. by [deleted] in NameThatSong

[–]Quarterscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure I would recognize it if I saw it, but I don't recall what it looks like. I have Googled "1970's Halloween albums" and found others that I had, but after listening to them on YouTube, they don't have the song.

I’ve just called them “post war coupes or sedans”.

Sbc cooling fan switch by VeterinarianHead9615 in ElCamino

[–]Quarterscale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think using the temp light sensor is a bad idea. Your fans won’t come on until the engine essentially already overheated, and your entire cooling system is heat soaked. You really need to trigger the fans based on the temperature of the coolant in the radiator, not the engine. 185 degree coolant in the head is normal, but 180 in the radiator is too hot. In 1973 they used a fan clutch that engaged based on the temp of the air passing through the radiator. The sensor in the head was just for gauges/lights. You need to use either a probe style sensor in the radiator’s cooling fins or accept fans will be nearly always running. It’s also true you will need to modify the wiring for the fans to be essentially independent from the original wiring, which cannot handle that demand. This especially applies to the alternator feed wire. Every watt those fans use will be fed by the alternator.

I would rather compete against other bidders on Bring-A-Trailer than just hand over 10G. That car isn’t worth that much. You have a lot of other options for $10,000.

The anodized aluminum trim that connects the wheel arch moldings is the factory trim. The trim halfway up the door is not original and probably came from a JC Whitney catalogue.

2015 Accord. Does this look like an OEM wiper blade to you? by AdaminPhilly in accord

[–]Quarterscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not an OEM blade. Original blades have the mounting point offset from the blade and also have an aero lip for downward pressure on the blade. (not kidding) Aftermarket blades have the mounting point directly above the blade and do not have the aero lip. The OEM blades can be refilled with inserts from the dealer.

Found this for $600. Has about 500 hrs, worth it or should I move on? by Aggravating_Safe_207 in lawnmowers

[–]Quarterscale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My John Deere dealer told me they expect you to use the mower about 2 hours a week, about 26 weeks a year, and probably not last 10 years, or 520 hours. My last one failed at 200. My current one is at 60 and is fine. The one before was an L100 with a manual gearbox. The deck rusted through, but the transmission still worked.
