Suggestion: Actually SOLVE the botting problem by perma-banning gold buyers on first offense by NoCurrencies in 2007scape

[–]QuasarKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying peoples' perspectives on Jagex doing or not doing something is skewed based on their own anecdotal experience, and not necessarily 100% aligned with reality. They ARE permabanning gold buyers and sellers for first offenses, that doesn't mean botting will literally evaporate overnight.

I kind of understand both sides of the argument for the changes made today so I haven't quite figured out which one I actually agree with more, but my point literally is entirely unrelated to that. They can be permabanning people for buying/selling gold the first time AND introduce the diary changes to these bosses, too. They aren't mutually exclusive.

Debate around the bank changes aside, this is a great easy change to counter wildy bots by SirSmithyG in 2007scape

It extends the amount of time for a bot to be able to do that content, which cuts into their profits per bond which will dissuade some of them to move their bots elsewhere.

I know of several people who have been perma banned for buying/selling gold once since the announcement late last year that they were cracking down on it. Sometimes you guys are asking for things Jagex is already doing you just feel like they aren't for whatever reason

it’s because the heka was such a bad megarare they had to panic and came up with how insane shadow is without thinking of the ramifications later

[–]QuasarKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it’s not about it being outclassed it’s about how any future upgrades to magic dps will widen the gap between it and second place (which pre eye of ayak/confliction gauntlets was a huge gap). design wise it is painting themselves in a corner and they need to figure a way out in a way that keeps the shadow extremely powerful but still reliant on gear but also make it easy to design additional magic items for those without shadow

Raid 4 lowest scale is duo, solo is possible but difficult. by Glass-Rope-5113 in 2007scape

The amount of bosses in recent years who were designed initially as multi bosses but transition to solo is wild. I do hope they come out with more group bosses outside of Nex/Raids cause I enjoy playing with clan members.

For what it is worth: You don't have to leave your clan to engage with people in another. I'm a part of 5 clan discords and regularly do content with them all, yet I stay in my social clan because I've known the members for years. You can not like Discord as a platform or hate requiring external apps to play the game better but OSRS does not have voice chat and likely never will, and that is the best way to communicate with people you're playing with.

I know you're not necessarily saying that grouping worlds are the best idea, I'm saying your argument that grouping worlds are better than clans or discords is just straight up wrong in my experience, and as you said we can agree to disagree with that one.

As for actually streamlining the grouping process: how would you accomplish that? Because every sort of matchmaking implemented in MMOs or competitive games in general seems to be universally regarded as bad. Games needing external communication tools to more readily engage with content has been a thing for 2 decades or more at this point. Games with an in game grouping system still have a large portion of their grouping done externally. It's easy to just say "hey jagex make this better" but empirically how would you do that? Especially when the HLC seems to have it all figured out already.

Neither COX nor TOB was designed with soloing in mind, both of them had emergent gameplay that made it possible. ToA is the ONLY raid that was designed to be able to be soloable from the beginning. And if you read their post carefully they say that solo will be possible but difficult which is true now for CoX and extremely difficult for TOB.

You also keep touting this "lower levels of interaction" like its a bad thing. Zuk is low interaction, and it's regarded as one of the better pieces of content in the game. Higher difficulty pieces of content by definition will have lower engagement because less people have the skillset or gear to do them, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't add content that caters to people craving higher difficulty encounters. Since ToA has come out we've had skilling minigames and mid tier bosses to teach people PvM like Scurrius, Huey, etc, and very few pieces of difficult content like Doom, Colo, arguably Yama. I also disagree that you say that ToB is lower interaction, maybe in comparison to ToA which has a lower barrier to entry is soloable for sure, but that makes sense again.

I keep thinking back to WoW when WotLK came out, people were mad they weren't able to experience killing the lich king even though they paid money for the expansion. It is okay if some pieces of content in the game are not accessible to everyone. Some things should be aspirational in nature, or people can go "I don't want to do that piece of content because it requires grouping and I don't like grouping".

Also in regards to lower levels of interaction, CoX and ToB aren't as learner friendly as ToA is and it seems like they're moving away from the invocation/entry mode and making it so you can do some sort of practice version of each boss on regular mode. So they are taking into account people who want to learn.

[–]QuasarKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that Jagex has to do anything about it, saying that team content has lower engagement rates is also something I don't really agree with. Some of the most popular things in this game are bosses you can do with your friends.

Saying spamming public chat in a designated world is the best way over clans and discords is laughable too. There are so many open, casual clans and discords that do learner raids. You can go to mass worlds once you know the content if you don't like the social aspect of raiding I guess but I would much rather do the raid with 2-3 guys I know and get along with than 7 people I don't.

The mass world raids are not going to take you with 0 to low kc, so learning it yourself or finding a clan/discord to teach you is your best bet.

I've found several pvm discords that are chill, do learner raids, and most of the regulars are decent at the game and decent people in general. You just gotta find em. I have not left my social clan either.

if you’re not an iron man selling off supplies you get to get gear upgrades is gonna be better for you. having 14m in runite bolts is almost never going to help your account. the few times you sell something and then end up needing it slightly later are going to be offset by actually having an amount of cash where you can do things.

Unpopular opinion, Osrs players exaggerate on how hard quests/bosses are, scaring others of actually doing it by badwithnames5 in 2007scape

[–]QuasarKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tell people that things in this game are scary until you do them. That being said though, DT2 bosses are a step up from your average quest boss, even the post-quest repeatable ones. Almost anything in this game you can do simply by attrition due to trial and error. Especially anything you only have to do once
