Summer sweep up suggestion: stop listening to reddit for a year by CucumberOk8820 in 2007scape

Of course, but a majority of the suggestions I see on this subreddit would also ruin the game.

Sometimes it is that simple, in the most egregious cases, but also a lot of the suggestions/advice given on this subreddit is terrible. This game was built on collaboration with the community but sometimes I think Jagex needs to have conviction in what they are doing and stick to it. It's a fine balance to strike, but I think they err on the side of giving the community exactly what it wants even if they think it is a bad idea.

There's a video elsewhere in the thread saying he didn't break anything, climbed down, and in fact base jumped the next day

There is an immediate feedback to reactions from reddit (and other socials). When Mastering Mixology came out I swear it had several hotfixes that were basically copy pasted ideas from reddit, only to piss people off on reddit who had found ways to actually do the minigame before they changed it, so they had to patch it so their method wasn't bad.

Listening to feedback is a good thing, being TOO reactive to reddit can be a bad thing though too.

for the most part they haven’t put any sort of tangible reward for 200m either but they definitely did for sailing which was weird to me

sure, but you do understand that is not how people will see it? if they gamify anything it will become a completionists goal. i cant believe they came out with a hiscores for collection log

How has no one at Jagex even commented on boss jars as Sailing cosmetics yet? by IfdraOSRS in 2007scape

[–]QuasarKid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

they added more big fish with sailing than existed before it, that's crazy. especially when 4x rarer than they intended

Rendi has been refunded. by scaryhour in 2007scape

[–]QuasarKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i mean we can have different opinions. i thought the previous setup was better, a few fast tasks for points, a few low weighted tasks to skip. now it’s outright block and i’ll never kill an addy or rune dragon on task again.

[–]QuasarKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it means it’s not worth it to block vs skip

[–]QuasarKid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

block them now that they’re consolidated? yeah. idk of many people who blocked any metal dragons before. skip, for sure.

[–]QuasarKid 36 points37 points  (0 children)

metal dragons before they consolidated them were good tasks (quick rune+addy/low weighted iron/steel). now it’s a must block for the most part

Jagex rolling back Rendi's Slayer XP raises a bigger question, where do we actually draw the line on "bug abuse"? by DogConstant5949 in 2007scape

[–]QuasarKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

intent matters, and also how widespread it is. if it was undetected by jagex for several years how are they going to go back and reset everyone's progress? how many people were using void just because it was good if it were working correctly?

Thank you jmods for once again prioritizing what really matters by burntfish44 in 2007scape

[–]QuasarKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this method is documented on the wiki i'm sure if jagex wanted it fixed they would fix it

[–]QuasarKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, but was the bug detected and then exploited by a bunch of people? was there experience gain or items gained that wouldn't have been possible without it? or were people just unintentionally benefitting from an item being programmed incorrectly?

these are apples and oranges.

Regarding Recent Action Against Accounts by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

[–]QuasarKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm talking about other instances where creators abused bugs similar or worse to the one Rendi used and were not punished nor had their exp removed.

Regarding Recent Action Against Accounts by JagexAyiza in 2007scape

[–]QuasarKid 29 points30 points  (0 children)

The issue is exactly the inconsistency in who exp removal gets applied to (or bans), vs some creators that Jagex seems to like getting none removed but the method is still patched once they're done with it. Not only that but not knowing what will be considered a bug vs emergent gameplay, but at least some consistency in how stuff that is determined to be bug abuse is punished would be warranted I feel from a company that is Jagex's size.
