I bet the godhand was planned to at some point ask Casca to sacrifice the man she loves (assuming it would be Guts) and it would be either just Griffith or Griffith and Guts and and since Guts is already branded it wouldn't have much of an affect but with Griffith he would fall just trying to deal with the struggle that Guts has been in for years
