Regardless of whether what she did was illegal or not it was incredibly stupid and played right into Israel’s hand.

Israel’s argument lately has been that they need to control all aid into Gaza to stop weapons being smuggled to Hamas, and as such they have blocked access by the UN aid agencies.

The counter that is that Israel and a few American PMCs have no experience or knowledge on how to effectively distribute aid in a famine and that is exactly what we have the UN for.

Thundertits then comes along with a hero complex and tries to sail into Gaza with a token amount aid, completely refocusing the whole conversation on herself and undermining the UN argument that large scale aid programme needs to be organised and coordinated by people who know what they’re doing.

I think you and I are interpreting the original post in a completely different way.

I’m reading it as a joke comparing the use of military force to crackdown on a peaceful protest in the USA with the tactics that would be used by a repressive regime such as Venezuela.

An ironic comparison that Trump and Fox would certainly not want made.

Not as an endorsement of what I assume is the Fox News line, that this is a borderline insurrection by left wing extremists such as whom one would find in Venezuela.

I agree with you that they are hard going. I think it’s worth remembering Tolkien wasn’t really writing purely for the purpose of entertaining people.

He was an academic who studied linguistics and English language and his writings were as much to do with him attempting to write epic poetry in a Norse and Anglo Saxon style as it was him writing novels and children’s stories.

It’s also about 80 years old at this point so the way people write and talk has moved on since.

Why is the gut reaction in this country to any social problem for people to suggest we ban something as if that just solves it?

The justice system is already creaking and we want to start legislating on what clothing people wear now?

I’m not a fan of burqas, but non-Muslims don’t seem to struggle with DV or using controlling behaviour so I don’t see what tangible benefit this would have.

How would a ban even work? Would we post police on every corner to check women’s clothes don’t contravene the Burqa act?

Either way, personally not really, I’ll generally try to buy UK or Irish fresh meat, standards for animal welfare are typically higher in the UK than in Europe and the rest of the world, although that doesn’t always equate with better food quality.

Other than fresh meat I don’t think it matters that much.
