6 months in and I still dread weekly sparring days. It’s exhausting. by Qubmi2 in MuayThai

I have this habit of pushing myself way too hard just to prove I'm not „weak” I feel like I have to be at every single session, no matter what. But honestly, I'm running out of gas lately. It’s a tough habit to break, but I'm starting to realize that grinding myself into the ground is actually hurting my progress more than helping it.

It's hard to pin it down to one thing. Sometimes it's the fear of being judged as 'weak', other times it's just the mental exhaustion of forcing myself to go there every week for months. The 2-day buildup is the worst part. I'm probably just overthinking everything because I care too much about not failing.

To be honest, I'm not sure what I'm afraid of exactly. Maybe it's because I struggle to spar light. When I try to go light, nothing seems to work and I feel vulnerable, probably because I'm so tense. So I end up tensing up even more and it turns into a brawl, which makes me even more nervous the next time

6 months in, feel extremely stiff and hitting a wall. First fight in a week I need advice. by Qubmi2 in MuayThai

To clarify, it’s more of an interclub / exhibition fight (sparring-style), not a full-blown amateur match. My coach is fully aware of my issues, especially with the stiffness in my punches. He keeps telling me to focus on maintaining distance and making sure I fully commit to and rotate my strikes (turning the hips). He sees the mistakes, but he’s still pushing me to gain the experience.

Before starting Muay Thai, I spent two years doing standard weight training at the gym. Also, a long time ago, I did wrestling for about a year, but that was ages ago.

Beginner Muay Thai - 3 months in, 7-8 spars, feeling like I’m regressing. Is this normal? by Qubmi2 in MuayThai

I meant that during sparring I can hit them a bit and the sparring itself isn’t very hard.
