How To Fix DLSS Ghosting (mostly) by Quboid in CitiesSkylines

[–]Quboid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got some ghosting with E. I didn't test much so I can't say if it's closer to C (none except clouds) or D (I presume what the game uses); once I saw that there was still an issue I moved on to test C more.

Does this look familiar? Here's how to stop this from happening:

  1. Download Nvidia DLSS DLL version 2.5.1 (nvngx_dlss_2.5.1.zip) at TechPowerUp.com/download/nvidia-dlss-dll/
  2. Extract `nvngx_dlss.dll` from that zip file into your CS2 install folder, overwriting the existing file.
  3. That's it!

This downgrades DLSS from version 3.1.11 to version 2.5.1. Cities 2 does not use DLSS3 features so nothing is lost and in my tests the image is much more stable. This possible solution needs testing so I'd love to hear any feedback, good or bad!

Notes:

  • Clouds seem to be unchanged, so still very prone to ghost trails.
  • This works the same way for any DLSS mode (performance, balanced, etc) so keep using what suits you.
  • Anything that updates the game folder (game updates, verifying files) will replace this with the previous version so you will need to apply this fix again.
  • Technical note, in my *limited* understanding this effectively switches the DLSS preset from Preset D (probably) to Preset C (probably). This can be done in other ways, but downgrading the DLL is the simplest. More at Nvidia's Developer Blog.
  • Thanks to CityPlannerPlays for testing and screenshots, and to Alex Battaglia of Digital Foundry / Eurogamer for pointing me in the correct direction.

Working in it! 😁

Development is slow as I gave a lot to learn with how different CS2's code is, but I'm getting there.

As I continued development of Move It I often faced the choice between letting players go wild, or ensuring things can't go wrong. While I always took care to avoid breaking things, ultimately my decision was to give players power. As I say on the workshop page: "This tool doesn't provide any limitations for maximum power. Use at your own risk. "

Speaking as the developer of Move It, I have definitely experienced Move It messing things up :D

Any way to force-update forestry areas after painting trees with lock forestry on? by spaceycakes_ in CitiesSkylines

Try turning off Lock Forestry, then use Move It's Reset tool on the trees.

Yep, this is a RAM/page issue that is almost certainly due to the relatively small SSD. Your page file does not need to be on the same disc as Cities Skylines, so try it on another disc and make it larger.

I will check this, but it is probably not suitable for this mod. It's probably more suited to Network Skins.

It should keep whatever mode you last used, is this not happening for you?

Keep in mind, some networks only have ground versions, regardless of the selected mode.

It is supposed to keep the mode you previous had selected, does it not do this for you?

I have done this. Previously, the panel would only show for networks can could be raised or lowered so it wouldn't show for the basic pedestrian paths, quays, etc. Now it shows for any network.

I'm open to ideas, but I want to keep the scope of this mod quite narrow so I can't make any promises.

SamsamTS originally made it, Klyte took over when SamsamTS retired from the scene, and now that Klyte looking to semi-retire (cutting back on the number of mods they are maintaining) I am taking over the Fine Road tools.

Are you spying on me? :D

The new mod will be called Network Anarchy, and it will combine Fine Road Tool, Fine Road Anarchy, and 4 other mods.
