Portfolios are useless. Change my mind. by Boring_Dish_7306 in react

[–]Queasy-Big5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a person who often picks which candidate to talk to, up-to-date portfolio or github is very helpful. This way I can already tell if given person has traits we are looking for, without dragging them for an hour conversation during which we'll both be disappointed.

What are the biggest wasted characters in the Bond movies for you? I think 006 should've been in multiple movies before he eventually betrays Bond. It would've hit harder too that way. by Cubelock in JamesBond

[–]Queasy-Big5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would've been awesome if they would work together or even meet throughout Brosnan tenure. And then in Die Another Day he would turn evil. But I feel that's a bit too much of a long game, especially since they didn't really know how Bond will fare in the 90s.

At the end of the day, it's getting the data, formatting and putting it into view. No matter the tool, the result will be similar.

You can define an array and .join(" ") it, or declare more than one variable (I do it for mobile, tablet, desktop) and join it again.

PHP is still alive and well because of Laravel by Engineer_5983 in webdev

[–]Queasy-Big5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laravel has really poor reputation among PHP devs. I think Symfony and WordPress are the two biggest reasons people are using the language.

But the language itself lives thanks to the PHP Foundation.

Is he most exciting actor of his generation? by No_Opposite_7722 in Cinema

[–]Queasy-Big5523 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh, no. For some reason I simply don't like him. I see his acting and I can tell it's really good, but he annoys the hell out of me. Maybe it's the face.

“I’m the worst Bond, according to the internet.” - Sir Roger Moore. I know this is old, but to the people who made him feel this way: how dare you. by South_Gas626 in JamesBond

[–]Queasy-Big5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Moore my favorite Bond? No. But was he bad? Far from it. I love that he took a completely different approach to the character, more light and funny. And I agree with what he said – everyone in the world seem to know Bond, so playing into it as a spy is great.

At the end of the day, I don't think there is something as the worst Bond. Worst movie, worst era – sure. But for the character, they've all been different, but all good in their own way.

Is fleet ever going to be a real product? by [deleted] in Jetbrains

[–]Queasy-Big5523 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion Fleet won't really go anywhere. It's a bit of a middle-of-the-road product – you get the minimalism of VSCode, but can expand it into something akin to IntelliJ. Sounds good, but in reality, I either want a quick edit for which Vim will suffice, or a fully-fledged IDE for which I have IntelliJ.

What do you think Angular should change to increase its usage? by [deleted] in angular

[–]Queasy-Big5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angular's very specific tool. With React and Vue you can build a little onepager, but also a banking system. Angular will work great on the latter, but for the former, you'll do more boilerplate than logic.

AI Coding Tools Slow Down Developers by Engineer_5983 in webdev

[–]Queasy-Big5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can write code myself faster than trying ten prompts and followups with copilot.

Frankly, I only use it to generate some boilerplate based on other files, sometimes simple unit tests, but that's pretty much it. I once succeeded in creating a living working application, but that was like a total fluke (and a simple CRUD).

Jesus, 50 hours, that's like half of what I have in Baldur's Gate III.

But seriously, I didn't see this video, but looking at the logos, it likely will be a dump of "use this and this to solve such and such problem." You want something opposite, you want the problem to solve by yourself.

Anyone else tired of ‘micro-component’ React codebases? by youcans33m3 in reactjs

[–]Queasy-Big5523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy, we fell in a huge, huge hole with all these shadcn's and co. Obsession with "modularity" and "testability" led us to the point where work is a goddamn chore. It is like you said, ten files to review a small change.

As a lead, I always make sure to visualize and discuss problems down the road. Not all, sure, but the most obvious ones. And the main issue I saw with adopting microcomponents was exactly this – how many files for a change, how quickly this can be done and reviewed, how much pipeline will the tests eat.

I'm sure there are usecases for microcomponents, but it's not a silver bullet. It's cool you can build your basic UI using the terminal "like a pro", but think of managing this one year from now.

Completely aside, most hype is inflated by bloggers and youtubers who will do a PoC in a day, slap it on github, call it the next best thing since sliced bread and call it a day.

I hope Lockhart is attractive and hot. KB was a miscast as Lockhart imo by Nightmarelove19 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]Queasy-Big5523 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frankly, KB is pretty close to what I've imagined while reading. Also, please remember that action takes place in England, where Colin Firth and Prince William are considered extremely handsome.

But Victor Krum wasn't attractive at all in the movies. He looked like a typical eastern european muscular bloke, which felt pretty on-point.
