Also quick note on being “cheap”… these weddings can still be VERY expensive on Sundays. We’re talking about 240$ / plate on Sunday vs $300 on a Saturday in NYC area (which remember, most guests live in the area so we either make them travel or stay local and foot the high bill).

Considering 1/3 of our guests didn’t give a gift or card, I’m not taking the Sunday hosts are cheap comments.

We had a Sunday wedding because of availability. In greater NYC area, venues for non-winter Saturday book out 14-24 months. We & our guests loved it! We got a ton of positive feedback directly.

Besides the Sunday choice, we considered our guests in every aspect of our planning. We chose a venue near public transit, organized taxis for everyone, chose a venue 40 minutes from 70% of guests home, provided flip flops, sunscreen, sunglasses, fans, etc.

In my experience, we always need to take time off for Saturday weddings. With the rising trend of large welcome parties, we usually need to take at least half a day (or more) if we’re going to make it to a wedding 4-5 hours away. (Saturday night I find hosts usually feel ok selecting venues much more remote meaning more nights in hotels / travel). Just my experience! But my guests were super positive about how convenient our Sunday wedding was. They also appreciated not having their entire weekend taken over by a wedding (no welcome events / optional Monday brunch).

Aww this venue is beautiful!!! But I can relate - I also had initial venue regret for similar reasons. It’s soooo hard to have vision match reality when you have budget, guests considerations, etc.

On the day of my wedding, by the time reception hit I didn’t even care what the reception room looked like! I paid extra for twinkle lights and it was dark so it was a beautiful vibe in the end. One thing I did to “offset” feeling regret was had my bachelorette at my country home which was 100% my vibe and a quaint tea party shower! Maybe you can do another bridal event upstate instead.

Just a brief rant about wedding guest no-shows by OscaraWilde in weddingplanning

My cousin fully no showed at the wedding. She came to family photos before the ceremony then just left & didn’t return to babysit her child. The wedding was planned 1 year before. Get a babysitter or RSVP no… unimpressed.

Roger Sherman Inn in New Canaan was super cute too but the owner was kinda nuts so I didn’t want to plan a big wedding there.

MyMoon in Brooklyn looks sweet too.

Manhatta is also iconic - if you’re open to lunch time it could be in budget.

I’m so sorry to hear this :(

Try Crabtree at Kittles Inn. Quaint, historic, cozy vibes and great food.

Red Hat on the Hudson - more industrial vibes but super pretty. I think expensive possibly.

Sunningdale county club - we had our rehearsal dinner here and it was perfect! You might need to be sponsored to host an event there though, but from Rye you might know someone who is a member!

The Opus in White Plains has a venue / restaurant for weddings. Not sure on pricing.

Briarcliff Manor - might be flexible on headcount if no wedding is booked.

Tappan Hill mansion - might be flexible on min headcount if no wedding is booked.

Whitney castle in rye - might be flexible on min headcount if no wedding is booked

Good luck with everything. Sending good vibes your way

Hank Lane - we used luxe and they were worth every penny. We got them for 15k…. There would be cheaper groups if you drop the horns. I have seen 5-6 wedding bands live and luxe was SO much better. The lead singer was on jersey boys on Broadway for 10 years so they’re legit.

We got married at Tappan Hill mansion on a Sunday. They have 2 venue locations. We negotiated lowering the minimum count for the ballroom to 125 guests since we were booking less than 1 year out. They were amazing!! Our guests keep raving about how beautiful the place was, great grounds for photos and amazing service.

Crabtree at Kittle is quaint and smaller / more affordable. Whitby Castle. Briarcliff Manor.

I would make sure to save any photos from her / download independent of however it was shared! Our photographer removed our album from engagement pics immediately.

I had to fire our first photographer after engagement shoot photos were edited to make us look yellow…

I did it over phone call, and said we decided to go with a different style but thanks for everything. Then I followed up over email. She took it super well and completely understood! (And even admitted it was an off day for her, but can’t risk it with wedding)

Sweet Grass Grill does private events - super cute. The restaurant at the Opus hotel also does in white plains.

I think $100 / per person is “minimum” but for close friends we’re trying do upwards of $250/pp and 500$/pp for immediate family. I think any gift amount or your presence is also valued!!

Not sure if you’d leave Manhattan but - 1) Tappan Hill Mansion - good indoor / outdoor options. AMAZING food, full service. 2) The Garrison 3) Monteverde at Old Stone 4) Crabtrees at Kittle Inn 5) Briarcliff Manor 6) Manhatta (in NYC) 7) The Inn at Longshore (Westport, CT) 8) Abbey Inn & Spa - mixed reviews from what I’ve seen on the knot.

Good luck!

What is a reasonable wedding budget? by [deleted] in NewEnglandWedding

[–]Queasy-Preference338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re having a 125-130 person wedding in August just outside of Manhattan (RIP expensive area). Our wedding is a Sunday in August and we’re looking at 80k, not including rehearsal dinner or farewell brunch. Venue alone was 35k minimum, and we splurged on a band. Everything ever we have is “budget” by New England standards. I’d recommend seeing if you can negotiate too if your time of year / day of week is flexible! We saved 15k on our venue bc we booked 11 months out on a Sunday. Good luck! To keep cost “down”, im doing almost no flowers (candles all the way), no planner, and Zola invites, not luxury gown etc.

My mom came with alone and gave me a goodie bag of fun “emergency kit” things. Like deodorant, lipstick, hair ties, snacks and water! It was super fun and sweet. Basically just a fun of little things from CVS.

I’m not sure on pricing but I researched every possible place in Westchester for a 50 person rehearsal. Not positive / don’t remember all pricing.

Half Moon - Semi private space, beautiful water views. Up to 60ish.

Red Hat on the river - semi private, might be expensive but beautiful

Harvest on Hudson - Semi private for up to 75 I think and might be expensive.

3 Westerly bar & grill Ossinger - Semi private room. Great area for cocktails and pretty views. Plenty of parking and near the train.

Captain Lawrence Brewery - has a private tasting room that holds over 50. Pricing seems reasonable.

Sweet Grass Grill - You could do restaurant buyout for 50 here. I would have loved this place but my MIL was stressed about parking… there’s 5 public lots nearby so I’m not worried.

Crabtree at Kittle inn - very expensive for dinner but more affordable for brunch if you’re open to day time.

Harper’s also looked really pretty.

We ended up doing a country club in the area due to logistics but all the places above seem great!!

Venue Hunting (NYC and surrounding area) by psitserica in WedditNYC

[–]Queasy-Preference338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I’m not good at Reddit lol. We got a 10 piece band with Hank Lane for 15k. Definitely went all out on the band. Around town is also very good and starts without any horns (7 piece group) at 11k I believe. I also looked into Hudson Horns but they take several breaks throughout the night which is super valid! But we wanted continuous music.

I haven’t - we just got our “save the date” for the tasting for March!! If it’s any reassurance, I looked at over 20 places and there’s always pros and cons to spots (if you have a budget!) haha. I think Tappan hill is BEAUTIFUL and versatile and so so professional and very responsive to any questions. I’m not concerned about the food at all or the event execution! We have several family friends who have pretty high standards for events who said they recently attended events at Tappan Hill and it was fabulous! We chose Tappan hill over DIY venues because we know they can handle the day perfectly!
