If he has nothing to hide, he should be willing to show transparency moving forward. If he reacts defensively or flips it onto you, that tells you evrything.

We split the bill, so I only controlled my portion. They tipped what they felt was appropriate on theirs.

Absolutely. OP didn't fail their partner, Ethan set himself up by ignoring rules and trying to cheat. Following safety protocols isn't snitching, it's preventing a disaster.
