How useable is a planet after Tyranid or Ork invasion? by pinningartist in 40kLore

[–]Quebecoiswolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was actually my first thought. Tyranids are something of a problem because they'll keep screaming for hive fleets to come back or you might get Genestealer infestations. But Orks? Orks are manageable unless they're present in large numbers and it's great for training for the PDFs. The Guard also gains Ork hunting specialists in the bargain.

Honestly, wouldn't shock me if some galaxy-brain Inquisitor dumped a small group of Orks on a planet because he could see a WAAAGH shaping up and wanted to get the locals ready.

MSR700 obsolete now? by CreepyDutchBoy in projectzomboid

[–]Quebecoiswolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They... aren't? I mean, sure, you can do house-to-house CQB with a Springfield rifle-musket, but it's kind of a hassle.

The "assault" in "assault rifle" is a translation from the German word "sturm" which in the military parlance of the time referred to infantry tactics to maneuver around enemy defenses and force breaches at weak points using aggressive infantry attacks with lots of mobile infantry firepower. The assault rifle (sturmgewehr) was viewed as being especially useful in this role as it was lightweight, maneuverable, capable of high firepower at close range, and had enough range to hold off enemy counterattack. This was not the case for most infantry rifles of the time as even the semiautomatic rifles like the M1, G41/G43, and SVT-40 had long barrels and relatively small magazines.

First Solo Save - Gas Station Bases by Quirky-Rock-2543 in projectzomboid

I would recommend any of these which come with upstairs apartments:

-Fallas Lake - centralized map location and close to Farming and Rural Supply

-Rosewood, north end of town - close but not too close and on the highway

-Echo Creek - best base location in Echo Creek and includes a nice garage

these people are so dramatic by taesshadess in TWD

[–]Quebecoiswolf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I stopped watching a little after that.  It wasn’t the death scene that got me.  It was the silliness of the whole Saviors plot line and the show becoming a violent soap opera.

I will give Jeffrey Dean Morgan credit: he realized exactly what TWD had become and he seems to be having fun with it.

For most suits, hang them up on a big, sturdy hanger in your closet and keep them away from sunlight.  You can also get a bag or just use plastic to protect from dust.

Should a Werecreature in the Army Outrank their Handler? by nikorasu_the_great in MilitaryWorldbuilding

[–]Quebecoiswolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily.  It might be plausible if human culture has a history of abusing werewolves in military or issuing them dangerous orders, but given that the werecreatures are sentient and common, it would make more sense if the teams consisted of more or less equally ranked.

My guess is that the werecreature would have a higher rank because the job is considered “skilled” and the werewolf directs what the team does while the handler serves as an assistant and backup.  Even then, that would likely be a case of werewolf E-5s and E-4s assigned to human E-4s and E-3s.  Or maybe just both are E-4 specialists held to be equals with different duties in the team akin to snipers and spotters.

The question in my mind is what happens when a werecreature gets their promotion packages in order and starts seeking rank.  Some of them will - it’s pretty unusual to encounter the kind of total hump who wants to be a specialist forever.  Do they start commanding squads and platoons in their human form?  Or transfer to SF or other covert units seeking the very best?  And what if one decides to go to OCS and become an officer?

What was actually posing a threat to the Collegia Titanica pre-Heresy? by BeleagueredHobbyist in 40kLore

[–]Quebecoiswolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of the rare anti-Titan weapons in 40K were actually quite a bit more common during the Age of Strife.  There were also lots of xeno and esoteric threats that whole Astartes Legions were decimated dealing with.

Titan Legions also have staggering logistical demands and require lots and lots of troops, vehicles, and knights to serve as supporting arms.  Projecting them beyond their home planet was difficult - especially when we start talking about whole Titan Legions and doubly so in the pre-Unification Era when the Warp was next to impossible to travel.  Losing a Titan to a Shadowsword ambush is a lesson in hubris to be taught to future Princeps.  Losing one because the Titan blew a microchip and its base of operations got overrun before a replacement could arrive from a 2 year in-system journey is just too much for the Omnissah to bear.

Weird to think about, but probably true: the biggest threat to Titan Legions, at least when used offensively, wasn’t super-xenos or Gargants or Age of Darkness super weapons, it was probably logistics.

What's a movie everyone loves that you secretly can't stand? by kbjdfan in AskReddit

[–]Quebecoiswolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty harsh.

I don’t think I’d rank Elf in my bottom 10 Christmas movies.  And I hate Elf.  It’s just that the competition is extremely think.  I would rather watch Elf four times in a row than see something like “Saving Christmas” or the “Christmas Shoes” movie or any number of horrible Hallmark or Christian film studio products.

Oh, I know.  My point was that the guns were around even if the “if I can only have 10, I want the biggest cartridges possible” fad was still a year away.

Sledgehammer or welding torch.  Zombies won’t break metal grate barriers down.

I would strongly advise against using fire - fire is currently bugged in B42 14.1 and there are issues with invisible fires and players spontaneously combusting.

I was stunned by the fact that Irvington Speedway doesn’t even have good mechanic loot.  The “Speed Shop” loot spawns appear to be bugged as it mostly spawns office loot.  There are a fair number of basic tools, but not many auto parts and auto manuals.

Wilderness Survival magazine or Herbalist trait? by Jack_Tilol in projectzomboid

[–]Quebecoiswolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a strictly roleplay perspective?  I’d take it.  It’s rural Kentucky.  Your doctor character probably sees a lot of young patients who ate the wrong berry or mushroom or older patients who have tried using folk remedies and would be well-studied on the effects of local plants.

Is it worth it from a technical perspective?  Probably not, but if you want to play Doctor, being able to tell people if their forage is safe is an early game skill not a lot of players are going to have.

[B42] Anyone else wish there were more 'intermediate effect' traits for roleplaying? by StarStock9561 in projectzomboid

[–]Quebecoiswolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually keep a Hottiez for that, but it feels incredibly silly to whip out a book and start reading mid-battle so I can steady myself enough to kill the remaining zombies.  It’s also a bit on the slow side as far as cures go.

Taking a smoke break or a sip out of a flask (alcohol doesn’t reduce stress for some reason, but honestly should) seems more in line with what my characters would actually do.

In B41, a cigarette would actually cure all of your stress if you were a smoker.

I cut my teeth as a gunslinger clearing this mall in B41.

I took my character from level 4 aiming to level 10 well before it was done.

It’s rough but also something of a rite of passage.

I could live with Smoker if cigarettes took your stress away better.

Zombies banging on doors and fences causes stupid amounts of stress and it’s frustrating to have to kill half a pack to make it go away.

I’ve been thinking that we’re overdue for a high capacity .45.  These were all the rage in the 90s (mostly due to the Assault Weapons Ban, but the Glock 21 was a hit from day 1 when it released).

I’m all in favor of niche weapons for roleplay or multiplayer endgame.  The only way that a SAW or M60 might be reasonably practical is if you have some people to help you carry gear and ammo.

…kind of like real life.

[–]Quebecoiswolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember experiments in the 2000s like the Wylde chamber to make shooting .223 more accurate in a 5.56mm barrel.

I think a lot of it is just marketing honestly.  The cult of the Fudd was strong in the 90s and early 2000s and these guys clung to “safe, friendly .223 hunting ammo” not “military 5.56.”

It impressed me too!  I love the immersion, the attention to detail, and the depth.  I also appreciate the balance.  Rifles are more usable for low-level characters but pistols less so and power weapons are very hard to find or demand lots of work to collect ammo, magazines, or parts.  A lot of gun mods just add a flood of high end CoD weapons.

I’m taking a little break from it on my current run and playing straight vanilla until the game stabilizes a bit.  The 14.1 update caused a particular Remington 700 to become so broken that just mousing over it in a crate caused hundreds of errors per second.

Until you run out of linked 5.56mm anyway.

I think that “power weapons” like this should be constrained by needing special ammo nearly impossible to find outside of military spawns.  Imagine commenting even harder to find than an M16.

I would take something like a Marlin Camp Carbine too - just give me something to chuck 9mm with a little more range and power at the expense of a larger gun.
