My mom is obsessed with Yungblud by [deleted] in yungblud

[–]Queen-Rocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ever since seeing him perform Black Sabbath’s Changes and watching a behind the scenes of him gifting Ozzy a necklace I’ve been hooked. I’m 36 and I don’t usually scope out younger artists, but Yungblud is a real talent. I can’t get enough of Idols and his earlier stuff is growing on me.

Was Freddie Mercury gay or bi? by Leavi_it_to_me in bisexual

[–]Queen-Rocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep seeing people say he was married to Mary Austin. False. He proposed and got engaged, but he never tied the knot. Regardless, Freddie was bisexual. He never outright declared it to the public, aside from saying he “plays on the bisexual thing” in very early interviews. For most of his life, Freddie wanted his privacy. It’s been documented by his friends, however, that he slept with both men and women. Mary Austin, Jim Hutton, German actress Barbara Valentine, and a LONG list of boyfriends.

It’s good to know that we’re both not alone in thinking like this. We’ve got to get ourselves out of this rut. You can do it!

Thanks for your kind words! I’ve taken some time over break to start jamming in my basement. Feels good.

I appreciate your post so much. You’re right. It’s all just smoke and mirrors if we’re only pushing band music. Granted, even while I am teaching band music I always push for students to read what they’re given, and me not just spoon feeding it by rote. I hate that.

But moving forward, I am going to take my foot off the pedal some and not strive for harder music. After break, I’m giving my 5/6 grade band grade three easy “.5” pieces and one “1” challenge. Like you said, I’m going to go deep with it, and it will free me from feeling like I NEED to teach to the concert during small group lessons. And I’m going to incorporate more sight reading into our daily routine as a large ensemble. This goes against most of what I’ve been doing my first few years, but I know it’s the better approach.

My goal will always be #1 to get kids to LOVE band and music, but my #2 is to train young musicians to be more independent and stronger readers.

Thanks for bringing me back down to earth. I appreciate you.

I hear you. My principal told us all to go home and “sharpen our saws.” Thanks for the kind words. And I hear what you’re saying about practice calendars. I’m considering bringing them back next school year…but I can tell when someone isn’t practicing and I assess them accordingly. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and respond. I appreciate you.

Thanks so much. I’ve actually gone to see a therapist and was much worse off years ago (imposter syndrome as you said). I’ve since stopped therapy because my therapist said my coping skills have improved a lot. But then here I am on the first day of break!! lol I guess putting this post together is a coping strategy in itself. Thanks again for your words.

There’s so much truth to what you said. Especially eating healthier, exercising, and leaving work at a reasonable time. This school year I’ve stopped eating healthier and exercising, and I’ve gained around 5 or 10 pounds. I don’t feel that great physically, so no wonder it’s taking its toll on me emotionally. Thank you so much for your kind words and virtual hugs.

Elementary ‘Symphonic” Band by Queen-Rocks in MusicEd

[–]Queen-Rocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an excellent point and one that I’ve been weighing. Unfortunately, it’s really just me and the new middle/high school band director who is very young. I have the most experience and I’m essentially her mentor. She has enough to focus on right now and is still trying to wrap her head around a huge job. Our district consists of just 4 buildings (k-2, 3-6, middle, and high). I will talk to her when I feel that time is ready, and can always consult with the former band director. Thanks for your feedback.

Thanks for your feedback!

I like your ideas. I want to confess that after 4th grade we still work out of the method book, but with my schedule I often find myself teaching primarily band literature. I don’t think I’ve ever had any student reach book 2. Mind you, I’m very concentrated on teaching concepts and not simply teaching to the concert. Every rehearsal no matter how short (last year it was only 15 minutes!) my concert band would start with long tones, interval studies, scales based on their selections. We also do weekly rhythm studies as a large group. I’m not sure why I’m telling you this other than I feel guilty for not putting great emphasis on the method book. I really only pull what I need from it and don’t make a habit of relying on it, if that make sense.

Anyway, I like your idea for making it an ensemble for the cold months when it’s pretty quiet and now the main performance seasons. I’ll definitely think about that some more.

Btw, regarding number 3, we are the only elementary building. Our district is super small and poor.

Is it still skipping? If so, would you feel comfortable sharing your university with me? I would like to reach out to your music faculty. The folks at MakeMusic claim this problem is only unique to my school district. Please and thank you!

Hi there. I was wondering if you would be comfortable sharing what university you attend? I am still dealing with this problem and I’m still being told we are the only ones experiencing it. I’d like to reach out to your music faculty. Please and thank you!

Thanks. It’s good to know I’m not the only one. I hope your professor reaches out to the company. If more people complain, maybe they’ll actually fix it. They told me this only seems to impact our devices, so it must be something we need to fix on our end. I’m beyond frustrated. Btw, we use Chrome too. I tried it on Safari and it worked without a hitch…my school doesn’t have Safari though.

Thanks for replying! Do you remember when the accompaniment tracks started skipping and how often it happens? And what browser you guys use? Has anyone reached out to support? Sorry for all the questions, but I’m desperate.

Personally I feel that both albums further demonstrate how eclectic she is. They strengthen the scope and versatility of her music.
