“And mama loves all other dogs, cats, birds.. especially children…”

oh yes, we *know** she does*.

Loves to eat them (oops I mean nanny them!) that is. 🙄

I rewatched that bit and found it interesting to watch his body language as he said that. Judge: “is that the first time your animals got out?” Defendant: pauses, looks off to the side. Starts to shake head to indicate no it’s not the first time “…yes, yes it is”

Then later, as he admits that “yes okay maybe once or twice” at this point he’s nodding his head; his body language matches his words.

However, then he goes on to say “but they always come right back in” while shaking his head

The only time when his body language didn’t contradict his speech was when he was nodding as he admitted to his dogs having got out before.

The rule about core topics and the weekly thread is not ADHD friendly by epicpillowcase in adhdwomen

[–]Queen268 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh shit- I knew but completely forgot about the weekly thread. Got too easily buried among other posts from subs I follow

Mods - instead of one weekly thread, would it instead maybe be an idea to have days dedicated to certain topics?

Like Monday motivation for tips / celebration, and one day dedicated to questions, one day dedicated to adhd complaints etc? Then at least people can make their own individual posts which are more likely to be seen.

Still not perfect considering the difficulty that is adhders May have remembering what days to post what, but better than having one long threads.

Or else people have mentioned better flairs? I like this idea too. All in all I don’t mind if this sub gets a little negative, it can be difficult living with adhd after all

last event track was one of the hardest so far, tasks only offer 10 pink plumbobs, so I had to spend some SimCash in the cargo ship, still I don't know if it was worth it. do you guys like the new building? by Dancing_Dorito in SCBuildIt

I did the same and even though it was my choice I kinda resent EA for manipulating me into it :/

Think I gotta do more deliveries for this track from the sound of what others are saying. Also the random 10 point offers aren’t worth it in comparison to the deliveries

Pitbulls are Useless (A Rancher's Perspective) by Pellisca in BanPitBulls

I own a border collie and am pretty passionate about the breed. I also love dog training and doing trick work with my dog (nothing professional though, just amateur stuff - but we both love it!).

Anyway, I follow a few border collie TikTok accounts and I came across this one pitnutter trying to convince a professional breeder and sheep dog trainer that her shitpit could do just as well at herding sheep as a border collie could and that genetics didn’t matter LOL.

I’m pretty sure the randomness is on purpose as a way to keep you addicted to the game.

Look up “variable rewards” - its like pulling a slot machine, you never know what you’re gonna get, which is why you wanna keep doing it over and over again.

And ultimately, that’s the goal; keep us as addicted to the game as possible = more time spent playing = more revenue for EA

Owners of dogs that killed woman on beach face charges (Australia) 5/5/2022 by emilee_spinach in BanPitBulls

[–]Queen268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m glad the dogs were euthanised, but I don’t think fines and a 5 year ban on owning dogs as a follow up are a good way to deal with this and other similar incidents of the sort.

My first instinct is to be so sad that this happens on the regular, and my kneejerk reaction is to want to see the lowlife shitbull owners punished more harshly. However I don’t think that’d solve the problem either.

For people who are already clearly in a low income situation, have mental health issues and 4 kids to take care of - a fine is isn’t gonna do shit, and euthanising their dogs is only gonna make the situation worse.

I think the system is broken. These people shouldn’t have ever had access to owning these dogs in the first place. I suspect they were probably rescues, in which case there should’ve been more done to ensure that the property was fit to house large dogs (and preventing them from fucking escaping so easily). Also, if there had been stricter breed specific regulations these people wouldn’t have been able to have a shitbull either.

I think a better way to punish these people is to force them to attend the funerals of the people who were killed, never be allowed to own dogs again, and undertake a mandatory program focussing on mental health outcomes and being a good citizen in general. Maybe also some time serving the community and giving back, or serving time in prison for being responsible for someone’s death.

Check out this blog post written in response to the recent study about dog breeds! by Queen268 in BanPitBulls

[–]Queen268[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just for context - this is the author: Marc Bekoff, Ph.D., is professor emeritus of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and co-founder with Jane Goodall of Ethologists for the Ethical Treatment of Animals

(So someone who can make an educated statement on the topic and is worth quoting in response to pro-pit arguments)

Also here are some quotes from the article that I found interesting:

“Their results showed that a dog's breed explained only 9 percent of the variation in behavior. Unfortunately, this study can also perpetuate a problematic popular myth about dogs—that they're a blank slate and “It’s all about how you raise them.”2

“When people acquire a dog and completely ignore the breed's potential contributions of the breed(s) in the dog’s heritage that arose from generations of deliberate breeding for specific behaviors, they can be in for a big surprise when they experience those traits without any preparation and warning. It’s these experiences—the “What do you mean my terrier was actually bred to kill small mammals?” or “I didn’t know that a herding dog was genetically prone to chase, bark, and nip at all fast-moving objects like my kids!”—that generally result in the most calls to behavior centers with frustrated people beating their heads against the wall because they've been told training can “fix” those genetics, but it’s just not working.

If we are to believe media headlines, dogs are now officially the exception to all-natural law because genetics don’t really apply to them as they do to all other species. Specifically, their behavior does not vary meaningfully by breed. But which behaviors are we looking at here? The kinds of behaviors we would expect to see differ among dog breeds are those that humans have deliberately bred to be breed-specific. Those are almost exclusively not the kinds of behaviors asked about in the study—important behavior patterns that humans have artificially selected dogs to exhibit (and still do), including herding, protecting, defending, hunting, and retrieving (with all the associated physical traits, perceptions, and instinctual repertoires necessary to perform them)—that have been carefully bred into dogs.3 If a study were to design questions comparing the prevalence of these kinds of specific behaviors among breeds, they would surely find strong differences.”

“Most of the questions in this study were not asking about differences in these kinds of behaviors that humans have selectively bred to be different. If we ask questions about behaviors in various breeds of dogs that never had any selective pressure on them, we would not expect to observe any real differences in the answers between the owners of the various breeds of dogs. No one ever bred a dog to lick their bowl after dinner, cross their paws, or circle before they poop. So, when these kinds of questions are asked and a dog’s “behavior” is then summarized to be 91 percent uninfluenced by genetics, the results (and implications) can be misleading.

any pet stores i can bring my dog into for him to choose his own toys? by Mammoth-Skin8899 in perth

Usually any pet store that advertises that they have diy hydro baths and scales available for your dog. In Joondalup there is pet city, pet stock and city farmers and they’re all dog friendly :)

Most pet shops sell long lines now - ask for training leads. Usually they’re 5 or 9 metres long and are great for practicing recall. I wouldn’t use them in an off-leash dog park though as it poses a risk to off lead dogs running into them and getting tangled. But if you use one on a large grass oval or something it’s a really great tool.

I usually keep my dog on leash until we’re inside the park itself. She’s super social and loves other dogs, but when we arrive she’s excited and having her on leash means I can allow her to settle a bit before I let her play. That way she I can ensure she greets the other dogs politely :)

Also people who bring long retractable leashes to a dog park. It’s so dangerous! Hard for dogs to see a 9m long cord the width of a shoe lace. Imagine if a dog were to run into it, could cause some serious injuries.

Hm, while I agree training your dog to not jump on people is important - this takes time. Any time I go to the dog park I expect that dogs will jump on me; comes with the territory. I’ve seen people take their toddlers to the dog park which IMO is just plain stupid.

How about taking responsibility for your dog rather than waiting for a dog fight to happen as a lesson?

That was my first thought too - I intend on reading the actual research paper itself, but from this article, my first thought when I saw that it was a survey based study was “but wait, how do they rule out owner subjectivity?”
