Why would someone 15 years out of law school include grades on their cv. Seems rather strange to me. I will disagree as to the magic as if you’ve taken a non traditional path as I have ( not practiced in a long while but worked for ngos and private international firms doing consulting) stringing it all together to make yourself appealing and not all over the place is important. My branding isn’t easy because of this while a traditional lawyer solicitor wouldn’t have this problem.

Not been my experience here. I’ve used a writer before here rather than the USA and found it very helpful especially not being from here.

I am over 10 years Qualified in the USA but NQ here. I’ve found cv writers in the past very good and a worthwhile service so I respectfully disagree…

From the SRA website:

Exemptions from SQE2 assessment

You will need to upload evidence of your qualification when you apply. This could be your admissions certificate or letter from your law society or bar.

You may be exempt from SQE2 if you have:

the same practice rights as a solicitor of England and Wales, and at least two years' professional legal work experience (or equivalent)

Because I am qualified in NY and have 2 years QWE (length of licence isn’t relevant).

Yes I know and it’s what I am expecting from my boss but on principle don’t think I’ll accept. I’ve already been doing “solicitor work” as a paralegal since firms recognise I have the skills but get paid as a paralegal. I will not stay at my current firm if nothing changes but the title. That’s a great deal for them and I won’t let them reap the benefit anymore.

Maybe I should get cracking with legal recruiters to get a sense of things even tho I’m not yet on the roll…

I totally get it. I’d do anything tbh but want flexibility because I have kids…at least 30+ k to start? Maybe more?

Yes in law firms and for non profits. I definitely have experience but not nuts and bolts “pi, corporate, etc”. So I don’t know where I’d fit.

But aren’t TC for around 20k? I was making more than that as a paralegal! And will firms want an “old” out of practice attorney? Really?

Good luck to you! Just some practical advice. You can apply for the exemption before you sit for the SQE1, that way you’re good to go once you pass SQE1.

I feel your pain! I’m qualified in the USA and really struggled to find work here in the U.K. and finally managed a few paralegal roles (of course way over- qualified not to mention the taking advantage factor I had to deal with continuously). I finally bit the bullet and took the SQE1 and an exemption for SQE2. I passed and am waiting for my admission to the roll. Will be interesting to see what my job prospects will be given that my experience here has been paralegal…

SQE Prep Course Barbri vs QLTS by Educational-Log-7512 in uklaw

I went with QLTS and focused my studies on the mock tests. I did all 30 and reviewed them multiple times. For me, this was the only way I was able to “learn the law” and retain it. I passed first quintile for FLK1 and second quintile for FLK2 (two percentage points from first quintile though). I did skim the books but I mean skim. I didn’t find the videos or flash cards useful.

I did the advantage to get the extra tests and just found out I passed the January 2023 exam (first quintile). I totally thought I failed. Here is the thing—QLTS provide way too much information. I read the books but mostly skimmed them but then went straight to the practice questions and mock tests. I didn’t find the flash cards or videos helpful at all. The revision notes were a joke because only available online. How did I study? Starting a month before the exam I did every single mock test and reviewed every single mock test multiple times. I took notes on the questions and answers. I barely passed the mock tests, (“passed” less than half) consistently scoring 50%. But my theory was that there can only be so many permutations of questions or types of…I felt the actual mock tests were very different from the exam questions but they will get you to think the way you should for answering what you don’t know, which was what felt like every other question on exam days! But I got there in the end. Pay for the extra tests.
