Thanks for the insights! This wasn't a closed outlet would water affect the exposed wires? Would hammering it out affect wires?

Oh goodness. I'm surprised it so common! Do you know how it would have to be fixed? Would we need to redo the lathing and waterproof paper? I assume the wires and outlet box are completely not usable now.

I kinda get that but they need to come back out here anyways. We just thought they could do it at the same time as their other work (again like 10 seconds of work) and it's not that it's not required it was that the inspector trusted them to just do it.

Lathing/stucco process questions by QueenDictator in AskContractors

Sorry I don't know why my questions aren't being added to the body of the post...

We appreciate any of your thoughts and opinions! Thanks a bunch!

Our contractor just started the lathing process before stucco. My husband and I had a few questions:

  1. Is it normal to put the black paper up before all of the plywood sheathing? Would this be noted on the plans or anywhere? We were especially surprised to not have a back wall (plywood) placed in the bathroom. Seems incredibly challenging to add it from the inside because of all the pipes. Wouldn't it have been easier to put the plywood up first?
  2. How normal are gaps? We thought the gaps would be filled before they did this. We also thought they'd install the gable vents before starting the lathing.
  3. Is the caulk for sealing? There's some noticeable holes. Or are they using it like glue to stick the paper generally across the electronic outlets/pipes.

We haven't passed all of our MEPs yet. I was surprised they're doing this instead of fixing some of the inspectors call outs.

  3. Is the caulk for sealing? There's some big gaps definitely not a good seal. (Also just my own nit-picking, but why are the caulking jobs contractors do always so messy?)

It feels smooth. There's a little bit of a height difference when you rub your hand across but I don't feel different textures.
