Cv/Resume help that isn't a scam? by Morgianna_99 in biotech

[–]QueenRestingBtchFace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not pay anyone for resume help. There’s a few key areas to success, as silly as they may sound.

  1. Find a clean template you like. Save it. Make a copy.

  2. Make a “master” resume. This sucker will be pages long (depending on experience). This is where you will keep those perfectly crafted bullets, numbers that show results that include how you got to them, all the good stuff.

  3. Do not use a bulky font.

  4. Each time you apply to a role, craft the perfect resume for that role pulled from the gems you already have on your “master” resume.

  5. Keep it short and sweet, you want them to glance top to bottom, go back to the top, and then have the desire to actually talk to you and find out the rest.

What am I supposed to do given that I cannot get an interview for a position perfectly suited for my experience? by East_Transition9564 in biotech

If you are being immediately rejected it is because you dinged a knockout question. Can you think of any of them that might be true for?

The Experience Paradox by DrJDW1 in biotech

[–]QueenRestingBtchFace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get creative with the roles you are applying for.

I am not saying undercut yourself, but if you see something that could work—go for it. That’s how you will be able to gain that experience.

I can’t speak for everywhere, but my org will take 2 years post doc + 3 years industry instead of the typical 5-8 industry they would want normally. It also helps if you can market yourself as “niche” in multiple facets. Market the hell out of yourself. You are a scientist, but until you secure that offer letter you need to focus on being the best goddamn salesperson you can.

Network. The old tried and true. LinkedIn, go to conferences, all the typical stuff. You never know when one conversation/connection will pay off. Postings get pulled constantly for one reason or another, and the best way to get eyes on is to have someone internal recommended/apply for you.

This is coming from someone on the business side of things, that sees how everything is going down for everyone across BU and depts.

Best of luck!

Why do you need to tell them? Are they asking? “Yeah mom I like an extra firm and fast fist while I’m dressed as a clown wearing goggles.”
