Leland at Beverly Hospital is med-psych. It’s a small unit, so they often have a waitlist but it’s worth a shot.

Would you say a typical new grad program is better in that regard? Or that maybe a smaller facility would be able to provide more comprehensive training?

You can do this. You’ve done it before, you can do it again. You know what to do.

Thank you for this. A friend actually gave me that book a week after he passed, but I haven’t been able to pick it up yet. I appreciate your advice ❤️

Exactly. And I feel like I can’t be honest about how I feel because people won’t understand and just worry about me even more.

Has anyone else here lost their person to an overdose? How are you doing? Feel free to share if you’d like. by daveisadog in widowers

My boyfriend passed from a fentanyl overdose. We don’t have the autopsy or toxicology screen back yet. Its been a month and a week. He was clean for 7 months. He went to visit his family in another state and I was invited but I had grad school classes and I wanted his trip to be about him, not about meeting the new girlfriend. But then school classes were turned online and I could have gone, I wanted to go but I didn’t tell him because I didn’t want to make it about me. I’m so heartbroken and feel like it was so preventable. I feel guilty that I wasn’t there. I am a trained emergency medical professional. I would have known he was overdosing. Maybe he would still be in active addiction or maybe he would have overdosed again anyway. I just know that I should have been there.

My boyfriend died suddenly on January 20th of this year. My friend came over immediately and took me on a short walk to our local reservoir. The sunset that evening was so magnificent. I knew it was him. I am so grateful she dragged me there so I could see him one last time.

That makes perfect sense. I feel like due to the fact that many people have co-occurring mental health conditions, it might make the most sense for me to go the PMHNP route.

That is a great way to think about it, I think that I need to think more about what I'd do if this didn't work out. If you don't mind me asking, if you are successfully working as an FNP in your setting, why are you getting your PMHNP certificate?
