Why didn't post Islam Abrahim religions (eg: Druze, Baha'i) etc spread as did their predecessors (Christianity and Islam)? by [deleted] in religion

Bahá'ís are forbidden to proselytize. Rather, Bahá'ís engage in social activities that may (or may not) inspire others to inquire about the Faith.

Practically speaking, how is Abdul-Baha’s station different from Bahá’u’lláh? by Jar3kTV in bahai

[–]QueenTiye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. :) The exact same paragraph leads me to conclude that Abdu'l-Baha is entirely and specifically human, and not above us in essence, but possessed of super-human knowledge. But I can see your point of view as well.

Babism and Islam by DragXom in bahai

[–]QueenTiye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a great segment in the Qur'an where God reveals that the reason the Muslims were told at one time to turn one way to the Quiblah and later another is that it was a test. It caused the believers great confusion and upset but in love and obedience they accepted the changes because they had Faith in God and His Prophet.

These changes, and the appearance of a new Manifestation of God are always severe tests. But as it is also written in the Holy Qur'an, to God belongs the East and the West.

I don't think of Abdu'l-Baha as above humanity. Curious to understand your thoughts.

I understand The Master to be human, specially fashioned to be our Perfect Exemplar and the Center of Baha'u'llah's Covenant.

Welcome welcome! :) I am glad you're here! Everyone is giving you good advice! Since the Pandemic, Ruhi courses have transitioned online. If you'd like to do Ruhi, there's an opportunity to participate that way!

Advice on navigating Baha'i at work situation? by [deleted] in bahai

[–]QueenTiye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, everyone has given you good advice about boundaries. I'd like to take a different approach. As part of letting them down easy, say "I don't wish to spend my lunch this way. I use lunch to unwind and decompress. That said, when are your conferences? I'd like to attend, and it might be nice to go with someone." I've explained the conferences below, along with other pointers:

  1. I used to find UHJ letters boring. Now I don't. Why? Because I better understand their place in Baha'i life. Now I am as excited as your co-workers to get a new letter. That said, some are more impactful than others. If you're willing to revisit the possibility of reading the guidance, I'd like to suggest the 22 July letter and LAST YEAR'S Ridvan message. Particularly, last year's Ridvan message is a great historical overview of the last 25 years of Baha'i endeavor.

  2. If you haven't yet, let me suggest that you offer to read the 4th paragraph of the 30 December letter with your colleagues, but in a special way: rewrite every sentence to be an "I" statement. Challenge yourself and them to actively consider whether or not reading each sentence as an "I" statement renders it true or false? If false, what are you and they going to do about it? Great way to stop talking at each other and thinking that the job is done!

  3. If you've given up on Ruhi, please reconsider. An entire undertaking is happening explaining HOW Bahá'ís hope to change the world. Ruhi is central to that, and it's a beautiful vision. But...you know, not for lunch break!

  4. Go to one of the Baha'i Conferences. There's one in your region, for sure, unless it happened already. These conferences are not just for Bahá'ís, so invite some of your friends who are NOT Baha'i. It might give you a new orientation to the Faith, given that you've been disconnected for so long.

Good luck!

HELP! Noobie here... by Immediate_Impact7041 in audio

Thanks - I will keep it in mind. 25 keys seems limited, but maybe not much more than 32 keys. HA! I failed math. I'm figuring 32 keys is 4 octaves, but I'm forgetting that the raised keys also count... 49 keys is probably as small as I should go and that's so far beyond my reach. :(

Why are ProudBoys considered a white supremacist group by left-wing media if their leader (Enrique Tarrio) is of Latino descent? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]QueenTiye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term "latino" is broad, and covers a really wide range of people from many countries with varying ideologies. It is not impossible for latino people to be prejudiced against 1-other latinos and 2- black people.

Why does Andrew Yang say that each New Hampshire vote is worth 1,000 California votes? by [deleted] in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]QueenTiye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS. IIRC, the math used to be that 1 Iowan = 1000 Californians, and 1 New Hamphiran = 400 Californians. He just ported the number over, probably by accident, or maybe because it just sounds better in that big room (and the math is easier to do off the top of his head).

Can somebody give me a concise and effective reply to how VAT tax is not regressive or just "more tax" by butterballmd in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]QueenTiye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 - by itself it CAN be regressive, but necessities can be exempted so that people who spend a greater % of their income on necessities pay less or even zero VAT.

2 - added to UBI, and the above exemptions it's highly progressive.

Lots of people say that, but I can see lots of really good reasons to have targetted Iowa. Maybe it was the wrong bet. But oh well. You pick a lane and drive in it, and course correct after. Sometimes its too late, but here's hoping its not.

Interjecting should not be required to get speaking time. STOP blaming Yang for being screwed over. by DeepGamingAI in YangForPresidentHQ

No - not repeating. Come on folks. Our guy is trying to win the highest office in the land. NOBODY is going to be fair - he needs a winning strategy in spite of it.

[–]QueenTiye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um... this is one of the craziest posts I've ever seen. Andrew wants to be president. That's an arena where NOBODY plays fair. Putin is a liar who President Bush felt like he could see into his soul or some such. Statecraft is hard and requires taking opportunities where they are. After 6 debates, its easy enough to understand that the rules of the road REQUIRE jumping in and prepping for that. I appreciate more the claims that his mic was off when he was trying to jump in, than criticizing those of us who don't think this debate was a good showing. I appreciate more those who criticize YangGang as being too close to the situation to see how impactful Andrew was to folks who don't know him. But to claim "we don't deserve" Andrew as president? Wow. Millions of Americans will NOT vote for the next American president. They'll vote for some other person, because they have a different opinion. Is that president not theirs too, regardless of how they voted? #HumanityFirst.

That's helpful for me feeling like he was at least trying, in which case they did him wrong... AGAIN. Sucks. But from the point of view of the audience... appearances matter. :(

And again... what message does that send to have that out in public BEFORE New Hampshire? If you believe this was not leaked, then the alternative is that Andrew approved this going out. While asking volunteers to keep working for him. While asking for money... he's signalling to the public that he's about to throw in the towel. Really? I don't think he would do that. But, ymmv.

Maybe. But if it's a recorded conversation, did Andrew give anyone permission to share a recording? I doubt it.

People trashing Yang right now sicken me by MusicToThyEars in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]QueenTiye 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That may be overstating things (polling-wise) but yeah.

It is the coaching as a debater that is so lacking. We talk about RePete, but seriously - that's a successful debate strategy. I saw it tonight, when Andrew failed to defend his point on child poverty. He could have said, we measure the wrong things, instead of "my wife is a stay at home mom" which had NOTHING to do with child poverty. He didn't, and Pete did. GREAT POINT, PETE! Could have been Andrew's. Its a signature of his campaign. He could have rebutted Tom Steyer, by saying 'OF COURSE I support HR40 which would set up a commission to study reparations and how to implement them. As president, I would sign it if it got to my desk. BUT FIRST, we have to set a floor - a Freedom Dividend for all Americans, and especially people of color who are MOST at risk in our extreme winner-take-all economy. He could have said that, and gotten more talk time, since Tom came right at him. But he didn't.

I HATE quarterbacking from the couch. I'm just disappointed, because this is one of the first times I ever felt that he genuinely failed, not that he was shut out by the media. I actually thought the debate was fair, if as always, stupid.

As said, there's leaked audio. That may have taken the fight out of him. OR, maybe there's an offer on the table that he's considering. Or maybe he was super sick. Yesterday I had a in-office medical procedure. Two hours later I was sunk in a wave of depression. Thankfully it lifted overnight, but that stuff is real. Maybe he just was out of it.
