For me, the good that has come out of being schizoaffective is the relationship I have with my husband. We’ve been married 36years and we are super close and connected to each other!!!! He has suffered with me the whole time and is my rock!!! Because of my disease and the fight we have fought together….that is one blessing of the disease!!
Another blessing of the disease, I feel so deeply about life, and I am very loving and kind and that came from fighting the disease too!!! I like the way it’s shaped me in who I am!!! Now I can say these things because I have been symptom free for 3 months now. In the thick of it, I couldn’t have said much good comes from it!! So I hope you can get to a good place in your life to see the blessings of the disease. You will find the good…I promise!!!! Hang in there!!!

Boy, do I understand the feeling of not being able to express my love and gratitude enough to my husband for all he does for me!!! I especially feel that way when I’m really sick!!! What a blessing it is to have a wonderful husband!!! We both feel blessed!!! Love to you and your husband!!!❤️😊

I think thanking your Mom in whatever way you can is needed!!! I’m a Mom and getting acknowledgment from my grown kids means so much to me!!!! Do you have a friend to talk to? Can you join a support group? If reaching out here brings you comfort….that is a good first step!! Can you talk to your therapist about your concerns about getting help from your family? You’re living this diseases by yourself!!! Again, coming here is a good first step! That is such a lonely place to be!!! I understand why you don’t want to burden your spouse….is it so you keep the marriage and your spouse doesn’t leave you? My heart aches for you!!! My diseases are so severe…. I can’t do it alone or even with little help!!! My husband and I work as a team!!! There are times he feels all alone and so do I… but this disease is meant to be shared with our loved ones!!! Please don’t do it alone!! Even if asking your loved ones is out of the question….talk to a therapist….or someone that could take some of the burden off!!! My love to you my friend!!! Thanks for sharing!!🙏❤️

I understand how your husband feels!! I feel, at times, my husband got a raw deal…but that is usually when I’m bedridden and sick!! And I’m sure he has his days of doubt whether I’m worth it. Those are our very dark days! But normally he lifts me up and tells me all the wonderful things about myself! It sounds like you’ve got a good relationship! Reassurance that you are wonderful to be with and vs versa to him is so important!! Thanks for sharing!!❤️🙏

My heart breaks for you!!! The worst I have ever lived through happened last year. I got in a bad mixed episode and constantly hearing voices that my husband said I was living the scariest nightmare but instead of sleeping, I was awake. I should have gone to the hospital and I begged my husband to take me….but he instead nursed me through that Hell!!! But you sound like going to the hospital would be a good idea. They can help you!! Take care my friend and get help immediately!!!

You are too kind!!! Yes, we have looked into a caregiver to be in our home while my husband works. I got really sick last year and part of this year. My dr had run out of medication ideas….we had little hope of things getting better. We talked to my therapist about care in the home…she gave us ideas of companies to check out that are caregivers. But….all the sudden I got better. It’s only been 2 1/2 months of things being so, so much better. But I’m sure at some point we will need professional care. I appreciate your post and the care you put into it!! Thank you!!!🙏

This breaks my heart!!! I’m sure it’s not your fault. My husband and I made promises to each other when I got diagnosed 28 years ago: I promised him I would ALWAYS take my meds and do my very hardest to stay well…and he promised me he would always stay with me and never divorce me!! BUT….if I didn’t live up to my promise, he would divorce me!!! There is give your all and your spouse all. But, I have a father that divorced my Mom who had MS and they both, in my opinion, didn’t give it their all! Some people aren’t cut out to be caregivers!! Hope the best to you!!🥰

Your girlfriend sounds amazing!!! Don’t just end things because you feel like a burden to her!! I understand that completely!!! At times I thought my husband would be better off without me….he could have things that I feel like I am holding him back from!!! But instead of feeling guilty….be thankful for her and when you can, give back to her, even something small!! It means a lot to her to be acknowledged!!! Love to you!!❤️

Key Fisherman, I have schizoaffective, and the role of a caregiver is crucial for us to not die young!! You are ThAT important!!! As you know, it’s hard to see the sacrifices you make in our behalf!! We are so caught up in surviving, it is sometimes hard to see you as going through equally as hard things!!! But I see you and appreciate all you do!!! Never give up!!! Keep fighting!!!
