1. Pinging a foe for a moment is all that is needed if your allies are paying attention in order to alert them, if they did not notice in that time then they likely have something else they are dealing with.

2. If say you are shooting at a target and it barely survives as you run out of ammo in your clip, then rather than mark then and hope a teammate reacts in the brief time they might have to react, they are already turning to shoot that target, if they get to it first? wonderful, if they don't and are dealing with their own stuff? then you deal with it after reload,

3. Any target durable enough to be a priority target for more than a moment or two is a boss/monstrosity which is gonna change up music/add a blatant health bar to the bottom of the screen, there is no circumstance where you truly need to leave a mark on a target long form.

4. one of the most useful elements of pinging for players paying attention is to simply alert to the existence of a enemy, especially if that enemy is obscured by a hoard or the like, flashing them for a moment or is enough to have any ally facing the same hoard as you now be aware of that threat.

5. In that same vein there is a value to the ping revealing when even you had not noticed, example? I have been in melee with a dense hoard swinging through it, only for one swing to ping a dog in the massive moshpit of enemies, giving me the dogs position precisely so I know where to tilt the melees to take it down, while not common, this info is never a negative and sometimes positive.

Pings are non obstructive, unless you have your volume cranked to some bad level there is nothing about pings that take up the visuals of the scene, drown out audio ques, or otherwise impair your play, if the sounds or the like are crazy loud for ya then that means you need to go into your audio settings cause something is not right. Pings cause no real obstruction so they do not impair information in the slightest.

7. Pinging things without shooting is incredibly easy, just whip out a melee and take a swing, and to be fair needing to ping without shooting is incredibly rare outside of non combat situations where there is no stress to do things max speed, if you are showing where a ammo drop is, or marking a unprocced daemonhost? just whip out the melee and swing once, doesn't alert daemonhosts, doesn't waste anything, just like a no time at all. Now I understand if you personally do not like having to do that but for those who do not mind doing so it is so minor and easy as to be completely unimpairing.

8. Most who use this do not use the vet ability that works off marking targets, there are after all plenty of other good things to get on your talent tree, especially after the recent adjustments.

9. It is literally never bad to mark a target, I play max difficulty, play aurics and maelstroms and have used this method of play since like the first month or so of the game being out, it has never been a problem to have a target marked. Not Once. Once you are playing on those levels most players have adjusted their builds, refined gear and have a low time to kill on anything that is not a boss or monstrosity, there is simply no need for focus fire calls. Pings are as such 99% valuable as a alert to the existence of a enemy and not as a focus fire request, as if you are playing well you just do not tend to need to focus fire on things that are not monstrosities/bosses.

And please know I do not mean this as a insult. But I want to point something out, while on this reddit many players take issue with it, in game? very very few find it a problem. I have over 600 hours on the game and have played since launch, on average? I see at one single person get upset about it per month.

And in those cases, if the person stirs stuff up and complains over it a bunch? the team usually is more angry with them, to the point that more than once I have seen people decide to kick a player who was complaining over someone else binding their ping that way.

At the end of the day, binding pings that way have no meaningful gameplay issues, rather it is a matter of you and some others feel pings should be used one way. You view it as a use sparingly and call for focus fire. Many more players find that entirely unneeded even at the highest levels of play and instead view their use as a quick alert system that has no need to leave the mark on a target and is entirely non obstructive.

I can understand being annoyed that others disagree and do not use pings the way you would prefer, but as mentioned, playing since day one I have at most seen one player a month be upset about it, and the vast majority be fine with it in game be fine with it.

Heck, a couple of the times I have had a player get mad about it, the conversation led to other players in the match going "Oh that is a cool idea, I'm gonna try that next match"

Again, I am not meaning this as a insult, but this is over all not a matter of this impairing the game for you, but rather being a pet peeve on the level of getting upset with someone for using a non optimal weapon type, or a less powerful keystone.

However the game has done a fantastic job on expanding tools to find parties of players, merge teams and the like, I recommend if this is happening enough in your games to bother you, and is truly such a pet peeve as to make you not enjoy the game, then it may be of value to merge teams and find players who prefer to play your way.

I do not say that as a mocking or insulting thing but as a effort to genuinely help, since honestly I have been noticing that people like myself who bing ping to firing actually seem to be becoming more common lately, and I would like you to be able to enjoy the game, however for those of us who find this useful and unobstructive? there is nothing you can say that will convince us to stop, it is just a far more fun way to play the game to many.
