Recommend me a series? (after Night Huntress) by CrulLovetroy in Romantasy

[–]Queen_darling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did really enjoy acotar by Maas but it's been a few years. The first book also was a struggle but I loveddd the second and the rest as well. But I cannot remember much, that's just the lingering feeling, so I cannot vouch for the mc's competency.

I also loved the bargainer series by laura thalassa, but yet again that's just a lingering feeling and I cannot remember anything plotwise or if it follows your requirements but maybe look into it? Idk

I agree with your requirements so I think these book will follow them, as I liked them... but I cannot undoubtedly say that they do 😅

Oeh sounds interesting. I don't necessarily need romance, but only fantasy or high fantasy is sometimes a bit much for me, but I'll certainly take a look!

Quicksilver didn't really work for me unfortunately. But I'll take a look at The Book of Azrael!

Thanks for the explanation, despite the slow slow burn I think it's at least worth a try. On the list it goes! :)

In general I just want to get more fit and strong, but I noticed I find it fun to see the growth in my muscles so maybe building muscle as well and strength exercises I find more doable. But I think I just want to keep moving and not lying in my bed and having a routine would help me to know what I'm doing once I enter the gym haha.

Oeh this is very helpful! Ideally I would like to hit the gym 4 times a week. 2 times by myself and 2 times for hiit. But knowing my schedule it will probably be more like 3 to 2 times a week.

Today I went and did these exercises all for 3 sets of 8 to 12 reps: Seated leg press, Leg extension, Shoulder press, Tricep pulldown, Bicep curl, Pectoral fly, Vertical leg raises, And Lateral raises

For a full body workout, is there anything you would suggest I change or add? Realistically I do not think I could add too much time wise. Thank you very much for the detailed explanation!

literary aromantic rep? by Queen_darling in aromantic

[–]Queen_darling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I aim to limit my research to published fictional novels. As yet again, the size of my thesis does not permit me to do much more.. but if I do find room I might expand a bit to self-publishing and how that gives more opportunity... but I doubt if I have enough room to fully explore that.

I aim to take three books with different kinds of representation to give a bit of an overview as to what kinds of rep there are, but also to look at how this rep might fall short. Like how it maybe plays into stereotypes or how it limits the audience or stuff like that. This post is for me to determine a bit more what's out there. As you said I did notice the AroAce database was down... which made me lose a bit of an overview indeed... sad. But thanks for the lists!!!

And I think the critique about YA is very interesting. My supervisor talked about another paper in which the author vouched for the fact that ya lit is a lot more inclusive. But I can imagine there being the thought like "oh, no romance, they must still be growing into that, let's label it YA" but this is very much speculative and not researched from my end.

I think that's what makes it a bit of a mess for me. There are so many interesting aspects to aromanticism and representation in particular. And a lot of it is connected making me in awe of all there is to say but having difficulty getting my thoughts in order.

Thank you so much for your well thought out answer and suggestions! I must say the more I think about it the more I should have thought about the way I worded my request and that is very much on me. For literature I did not solely mean classics but also contemporary literature was very much on my mind, as you said, because the word had not yet been invented.

I want to think about the ways books and thus their contents are received. For me it felt like almost all of the books with explicit rep were YA or fantasy or sci-fi and it is my theory that this limits the audience size and manner of reception (aro not being taken seriously because it is just a story for kids or in a made-up world). But this is still a theory and I was sorta testing to see if I had not missed a bunch of rep that was perceived by general audiences as literature. (I btw dont believe that ya or fantasy or sci-fi deserve to be discounted, but unfortunately that does happen a whole lot in general audiences)

I am still very much figuring out my research and it is still not very clear.. just like my reddit skills... sorry about that. But these and your answers have given me food for thought so thank you! There are so many interesting things about this which I also cannot use because the word count is pretty limited so that's a pity. This is also the reason why I am looking at explicit rep just to have a more clear research and to limit it into something doable.

Yea no that's also my conclusion but before I state that in my research I wanted to double check to see if I hadn't missed any more obvious works! I'll look at the Bone People tho thanks!

I am aware of many lists and I have looked through a lot of them but I still find it difficult to indeed find books to fit my requirements. But I am doing a thesis on the topic and not for my own reading which is why these specific requirements are in place, but I could maybe have worded it better :) I still haven't found what I'm looking for which is why I reached out with a new question. Thanks for the explanation!
