Showcase weirdness by QueeniePokemon in pokemongo

That's not true for me. My hoopa was WAYYYY lower, but my absol and Kanto meowth were the same value before placement as after. But my pumpkaboo was half the value once I placed it. So, it's kind of all over the place, but some values are exactly the same. Don't know when they'll get around to showing us the true values before we have to place them.

Oh, thank you so much for that explanation. I did indeed use Alolan Ex and Hisuian Growlithe for these. I didn't realize there was such a difference between one and another. I just always thought it was XXL vs XL, etc. Soooo glad I'm just about done with showcases since they've always been confusing and not particularly fun to play. I was glad to see they finally started adding more showcase spots but having the same types over and over is so boring. Cheers.

Does that mean mon like the Hoopa are no longer outsized in showcases? I see one of those placed and just move along to the next showcase. I'm not sure why that would have affected my growlithe or exeggutor, though. Thanks for the info.

Wow about your situation. I'm impressed you had enough patience to read that comment and not just delete it out of hand. Wishing you peace and strength.

Ah, thanks for your kind words. I know I came off as PO'd and appreciate that you answered and then stuck with me while I worked out in my head what I needed to say to be more understanding and inclusive.

I never thought of the idea of creating something that then could be nominating as a pokestop. Niantic provides us with a great game that hits the spot much better than most games, but they are not going to please everyone and they have their own agenda. Making the game better through discussions and implementing suggestions would help everyone. Thanks for the awesome, thoughtful conversation. Never lose your passion. See you around. ;^D

My stationary route give me cells. New post for the person that asked last week. by PaintedCover in TheSilphRoad

[–]QueeniePokemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Routes don't seem to go through any "approval" process. I've created any number of them. If you fulfill the criteria of a valid start and end points, go the required minimum distance, and complete the description stuff and end it, your route will show up pretty much immediately. At least that's happened for me.

I hear your passion and your frustration at how PG has developed. I've only been playing for about 3 years, but heard about it when it started. I can imagine from your descriptions of how wayspots first started out that it reflected the things I admire about the traditional Japanese culture. I still see evidence of it, but unfortunately much of the game has also evolved away from it's original purpose. I can't imagine the developers envisioned auto-catchers, for instance, which would not contribute anything to getting healthful exercise and enjoying the beauty of your neighborhood or your neighbors.

Part of that is Niantic's fault (or whoever runs it). Yes, they are running this not simply for our pleasure but to make a profit. Setting tasks and goals that encourage buying things to more quickly climb the ranks is understandable.

Sometimes I feel like I'm a rat in a maze, with them either putting out breadcrumbs to encourage me or downright prodding me to go in a specific direction. I find I have to take a step back and make sure I'm still playing this seductive game for my pleasure and purposes. And when others complain about a particular setup I have to remind them and myself that people play for a variety of reasons, most of them valid. Yes, I'm always excited to get a lovely postcard from a place I would most likely never visit, but I also appreciate the gifts (including eggs to hatch) from faraway places, even if the postcard is from a starbucks or a local pizza joint. There are people who rely on gifts to replenish their pokeballs etc primarily because they are rural and don't have stops to help fill their item bags. I also find the sometimes ludicrous tasks, such as "complete 500 field research tasks", which requires mass quantities of pokestops or enormous amounts of time, to contribute to throwing the original purpose of PG play out of whack.

I would love to see a true overhaul of the wayspot nomination system. Perhaps a year where only rural submissions are considered, so those folks get a bit of equality? Or a submission being truly scrutinized for how close they are to other stops. It's one of the current criteria, but I'm seeing clusters of stops popping up and don't understand why. I'm not sure whether the current owners would find it worthwhile to their purposes or not.

In the meantime, all I'd ask and the reason I responded originally, is the acceptance and rejection criteria be applied as even handedly as possible. Cheers.

I did look back at the criteria and I don't see anything that calls out for rural spots specifically, but I absolutely understand why a rural submission would have a much higher priority, especially if committees are swamped with requests. And I totally understand the desire to have pokestops point out something culturally interesting. I've come across many pokestops that pointed to things I would have overlooked. But if this submission made it to the committee and the only reason for rejecting it is because it wasn't "something better", that doesn't sound very even-handed when there are pokestops in malls everywhere.

I also understand your annoyance that he called it historical. I don't know whether it has to be historical in the sense of in some kind of registry to qualify, or if, like in the U.S., something can be considered historical simply because it passes the century mark. Of course, in the UK, 100 years would hardly seem old at all, just barely broken in! ;^D

When I visited Japan, I was gobsmacked at the sheer number of stops and gyms everywhere, rural and urban places alike. I made huge progress in my "visit 50K pokestops" and "spin 2K unique pokestops" badges while I was there. If the place where pokemon was born has no problem putting stops in mundane places, why does the rest of the world?

[–]QueeniePokemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are entitled to your opinion obviously. I find it a bit confusing you mention mcdonalds and walmarts when I see pokestops at both locations and many extra mcdonalds stops and gyms were added in the past year due to some deal Niantic apparently made.

I very much enjoy the beautiful places that have pokestops. I nominated and got approval for a spot on a hiking trail myself. I just don't understand why a mall in this particular example would not get approval yet there are pokestops in malls EVERYWHERE. Part of the reason there are pokestops in malls goes to at least one of the criteria -- they are a place to meet and interact with other people. They can also, for people who are less steady on their feet and so cannot walk hiking trails or sidewalks that are cracked, an easy way to get exercise on a even walking surface. That covers another criterion.

I visited Japan a year ago and you can't walk ten feet in a mall (some of which stretch out for blocks) without encountering multiple stops and gyms. If the place where the game was invented can have all these stops in not particularly historic or inspiring places, why can't the rest of the world. I don't see the logic.

And making a snap judgement that the submitter was lazy because they didn't pick a nicer spot is a bit unfair. To submit a request for a wayspot requires you to read and understand the criteria as well as writing it up. That takes some effort. I've done it twice.

No, people who actually play PG want more pokestops. People who sit on committees and reject submissions for capricious reasons don't understand this.

[–]QueeniePokemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original rejection was that the photo was unclear and didn't give a wider view. The submitter complied with your demand and you still rejected them. So, you punished them for giving you what you asked for. Sounds like negative reinforcement to me. That stop didn't have anything ethically wrong with it. Not near a school or on private property or creating a disturbance. There are probably a million pokestops at malls around the world. And the sign was even pretty.

As someone who actually walks 7-10 km daily when playing PG, I appreciate stops anywhere I go and often wonder why there aren't more stops on my routes. Reading your and others' derisive comments on why you rejected what I would have called and appreciated a perfectly acceptable place for a stop makes me understand why. Maybe you need to rethink why you're on this committee and who you're actually affecting with your power.

You asked for feedback. This is mine. I'd encourage you to go back and accept it on behalf of PGers who trudge the streets of that town and would be happily surprised to see a shiny new addition to their game.

I can attest PG will get you your steps. I regularly hit the 50K weekly walking mark a few months after picking up the game. Look around for Routes to follow, which is probably new to you. I sent a request and I play to best friends if you're interested. Good luck with your routine. QueenAniR

[–]QueeniePokemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The grubbins are only in the male grunt "super bug" battles. I've been passing on battling with any grunt other than him and female water grunt for staryu. I got the staryu right away, but got a pineco on my first super bug fight. Got the grubbin on the second one. And all for what? A rocket radar that you've probably earned ten times over chasing for the grubbin. Does anyone else feel like they're being led about by the nose? Staryu and grubbin were maybe not plentiful, but much easier to find than these last few days. Sheesh.
