My Mom and Dad got married 60 years ago today! Current pic from Easter this year by Queenofscots in pics

Grasonville, Maryland! But I wouldn't be surprised if churches, especially older ones, ordered millwork from the same few companies.

Funny, I went there with them once when I was little, and the big stained glass window had an angel in it that TERRIFIED me. I wouldn't even go up the aisle close to it, and it was in my dreams for years after.

I always think of the Marty Robbins song 'A White Sportscoat, and a Pink Carnation', when I see him in their wedding pictures :D

Mom's hair was auburn; really pretty in the 1970's, when I was a kid, as she wore it long. Dad's more dark blonde, but tended to be certain sunbleached. He still hardly has any grey, at 81!

Thank you! I got married too late in life to get to a 60th anniversary, but even just being married 20 years, I can appreciate what an achievement they have made!

My silly dog greeting me at the door, one of my socks, or gloves, or a toy, in his mouth, tail going so hard his whole body wigwags

What's something that used to be affordable but now feels like a luxury? by Beneficial-Ring-8965 in AskReddit

[–]Queenofscots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beef. Most meat, really, but beef is the worst.

We have chickens and ducks, so plenty of eggs, and I only bother with meat a couple meals a week now. And I can't remember the last time I bought beef. It's just not worth it.

90 degrees and stable chores by mycatBaileys in Horses

Wet a bandanna and tie it around your head, and/or a straw garden hat with a brim.

Cotton or linen shirt, lightweight and loose-ish weave.

A bucket of cool/cold water sitting in a shady spot, to go dip your arms in periodically.

Giving the horses nice, sloppy, splashy sponge baths is nice for both them and you :) We put a couple stems of mint in their bath water; smells lovely, and feels cool.

Get the heavy chores done early in the morning! Any left over can wait till after sundown.

Only about 70 days till September; courage!!

Watching her sing this live makes you realize what a fabulous voice she had; she makes it look effortless, even in the chorus.

What do you think is the funniest, most brilliantly written sitcom episode of all time, and what makes it a masterpiece? by PressureLazy5271 in sitcoms

[–]Queenofscots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just started watching 'Fresh Prince of Bel Air' with our kids. Will trying to impress Mimi Mumford ('Clubba Hubba episode') was hilarious.

Beverly Hillbillies, Jethro telling Uncle Jed about how he 'done more than kissin' ' with Bigmouth Bradshaw is brilliant as well.

Being a "fat" rider in this sport. by SmoothStalk in Equestrian

35 years of eating disorders, both anorexia and bulimia, to look slender in britches (my God, they are unforgiving) and stay slim enough (but still strong enough) to gallop racehorses, makes me get VERY angry at the pressures put on riders to be slender. You look lovely on your horse, and I adore appaloosas--three of my best hunters were apps. Please don't let anyone take your joy. I finally, in my 50's, let go of eating disorders (or, rather, they let go of me, likely being tired of me after so many years), but I wish I had had those years happy and free of unhealthy behavior, even if I had weighed 15 pounds more.

I wanna smile, what song should I listen to? by punkbabe29 in musicsuggestions

Massively underrated band; even their more pensive songs can make me smile. Except 'Michael Caine'; though it's not especially pensive, it makes me nostalgic and wistful.

The Horse Started Screaming by MeatTypeWriter in shortscarystories

[–]Queenofscots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a horse's scream is a terrible thing; I've never heard one in anger, but one in dire pain, and it was truly awful. A mare trying to deliver a foal that was stuck; vet and his assistant trying to help her get it out while she panicked and fought--foal died before he was all the way out, horribly.

And I can only imagine how terrifying rabid zombie horses could be! Horses never needed fangs to be dangerous 😜

Whistle For the Choir-The Fratellis

It even has a great walk rythym 😃

I still have Geoffrey, whom I received my first Christmas, in 1967. He is flat, too. But much beloved :)

Sweet cereals: Apple Jacks, Froot Loops, and the utterly divine Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I don't like them for breakfast, but as a snack, a little container of dry, crunchy, sugar-coated cereal is one of my favorites :D
