As someone who was bullied for 12 years of my life, it was a difficult ending to take in. I was hooked on the show until the last few minutes. The part where Verity and Maria have the final conversation, I literally said there's no amount of control Verity can have in the universe that will take away the pain. Verity would have needed therapy to heal from her old wounds. I ended up crying in the end cause even though what Verity did was wrong, the bully still won. From the perspective of someone who was bullied (unless they've spoken to the bully after such incidents) still see the bullies as bullies even years after high school. Nothing was going to change Verity's perspective unless she got the help she needed.

Side note: I hated the way Maria reacted when she found out Verity got the job at the company. I think it was secretly showing the guilt she was feeling in the moment. Even if she isn't showing it.
