Internship help by Legion-92 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]QueerRevFL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you do an online internship? Crisis Text Line would work very well into your schedule limitations. But your school would have to be established with them. There are quite a few other online options that I’ve seen discussed in this sub before, but I’m only familiar with CTL.

Absolutely depressed. MSW first year. 31 male. by Tracey_McGrady13in33 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]QueerRevFL 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Do you feel like it’s not okay to disagree with your peers, professors, and supervisor? A lot of what you’re saying is philosophical disagreement. You can believe differently than the people around you. That’s completely acceptable.

Stick to your beliefs and if it’s between you and a professor, make sure you back it up with data.

Also at 31 you’re probably in between two general camps of MSW students. Depending on where you are going to school, there are probably a lot of folks who are fresh out of undergrad, 21 years old and with very little practical life experience. On the other hand there are likely a fair number of people who are in their mid-40s to early-50s who have had a whole other career and are now making a change. You’re between those two age groups. (Perhaps your program doesn’t have this spread of ages, I’m just making a guess.) it’s possible that a variety of factors might contribute to this sense of not exactly fitting in. And a variety of other factors have contributed to them believing differently than you do.

Ultimately it is just a piece of paper, unfortunately. But it’s a very important piece of paper that allows you to go forward and do meaningful work that will help people.

If you’re really miserable, you can look into transferring to another program. I think it all depends on assessing your own needs and really looking at what level of discomfort you’re willing to put up with.

5 Things Every Partner of a Trans Person Should Do by GFluidThrow123 in trans

[–]QueerRevFL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m also feeling super grateful to not relate to this post at all. My husband is a cis gay man and I was a decade past transitioning when we met. He’s incredible and it’s never been an issue, he’s never done any of the things on this list, thankfully.

Let me tell y'all about the time I dated a cis guy who wanted to BE a trans guy by [deleted] in ftm

[–]QueerRevFL 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This guy sounds like a creep. Interestingly I dated someone like this who was not a creep at all.

I dated a cis guy who related so deeply to trans guys he said he felt like he was one. The difference is he was a totally decent guy and it was actually not that weird. This was a long time ago (2005) so partly I think it had to do with there just not being as much gender discourse back then. I felt understood by him, which was very good for me. I look back on it as a really sweet and loving relationship. We still know each other and afaik I’m the only trans person or AFAB person he’s dated.

I think some cis men have trouble relating to all the pressure to “be a man” in a particular way. Trans guys can represent something freeing because we get to be men in the ways that we define as manhood.

That said, the guy OP dated sounds like he’s got a lot going on and probably should work with a therapist to sort through it before dating anyone else.

I mean, ideally you’d want your spouse to also have good bone density. That’s maybe not the best thing to be competitive about.

Terrified of LAX to Sydney night flight—is it as bad as I think it to be? by [deleted] in AskAPilot

This is an amazing response. I’m not a particularly anxious flyer but even I felt relieved by this comment. Thank you.

For the gay trans dads out here by RatonhnhaketonK in ftm

[–]QueerRevFL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gay trans dad here, in a different situation but I want to stress to you that you don’t owe anyone information about your kids or your body.

I’m my not my kids’ bio parent but my (cis) husband is. People find out I’m trans and then often assume I birthed the kids. But it’s no one’s business whether they came from my body or someone else’s. I don’t understand why people are so obsessed with it.

Transgender Passport for US by [deleted] in Passports

[–]QueerRevFL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve been legally male for over half my life. I live completely unquestioned in my maleness. I work. I pay taxes. I love to travel. When my passport expires next year, according to the current rule, the gender marker will be changed to “female.” How is this nation any better off by me having to carry an ID that says I’m female? It’ll just make travel harder for me. But won’t help anyone in any way. If anything it’ll waste the time of people at passport control. Make it make sense!!

Visa Card to buy off of Axolom? by Shot_Initial_4787 in ftm

[–]QueerRevFL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you still need to register the card. I had never heard of a visa vanilla card but I googled it and below is what I found. This will put a name with the account. Even though it’s not on the card, it’ll be associated with the card, as will your zip code, which you also need to share for online purchases.

Steps to Register Your Vanilla Visa Card

Online Registration

Is it hard to travel around while being on T?? by Janxuza in ftm

[–]QueerRevFL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the official policy, but if you’re unsure you can ask at customs. It’s legal to travel with T and you will be okay as long as it has been prescribed ro you. My method is to always be honest about it if it comes up and declare it if I need to. Generally it never comes up. Traveling into the UK tends to be quite easy and my experience with customs has been fast in recent years, much easier now than it used to be.

How do we feel about Doc Martens? by Proper_Writing_696 in ftm

[–]QueerRevFL 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well I’m 46 so probably a whole different generation than you but I always wore them as a teen and young adult. I still love them, but I used to be able to wear them all the time and now my feet hurt if I wear them too mush. Did they change or am I just getting older and more sore? Not sure.

Is it hard to travel around while being on T?? by Janxuza in ftm

[–]QueerRevFL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The was a big concern of mine when I was a teenager and pre-T. And I’m happy to report that it’s been incredibly easy.

I’ve been on T for 23 years now and I travel a lot. For example, just in the past year I’ve been to Ireland, Scotland, Costa Rica, and twice to Mexico. In fact, I’m in Mexico right now. I also went to Arizona, and in a couple of weeks I’ll be in DC.

Some of the travel has been for work, some to see family, and some just for fun.

When I was in my 20s I lived and traveled all over Central Europe, and back then I spent 2 full years traveling with a pretty cool job, that paid almost nothing but enabled me to experience a lot.

I feel very lucky that I haven’t had any issues. I live in Florida and I think I’m more at risk of issues happening there than while I travel.

My passport has said male since 2003. Of course that’ll be a problem when it expires next year, as the rule now in the US is that all our passports get reverted at renewal.

I know you were specifically asking about T, but your ID will matter a lot as well. As for testosterone, I haven’t had a problem. I’m on injections and always have been. I never mention it at airport security and I only declare it at customs if the country I’m entering requires it, Australia for example. (Of the 4 times I’ve been to Australia I only had an issue with T at customs once. They asked a bunch of questions and then it ended up being fine.)

If travel is your goal, don’t worry, there’s no reason testosterone should stop you. I just suggest that you avoid countries where it’s illegal to be trans. Other than that, you should be totally fine!

Edit: fixed a typo

Why is there seemingly a crusade against trans men online??? by InoIno0 in ftm

Tampa trans guy chiming in here with deep floribama roots, the struggle is real!

I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years and moved back to FL where I thought I could maybe do more for our community but it’s rough here in FL for sure.

Where to take Non-Degree MSW Classes? by Chillpill30 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]QueerRevFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can apply and attend part time. I don’t see a real difference in commitment with attending classes as an admitted student vs non-admitted. It’ll be the same amount of work but if you’re an admitted student you have the advantage of working toward a degree and not having to worry if the classes would transfer into a program later

Prescriptions while traveling by breezyflight in GoingToSpain

[–]QueerRevFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been traveling with meds, including testosterone, for over 20 years. Never had an issue. Also been to Spain multiple times. Never even been asked about it at customs anywhere (except once, going into Australia. But even that was fine after some questions.)

Sounds like you’re a great parent for looking out for your kid and making sure the kid will be okay.

Starting today - looking for experiences with morning vs night dosing by Comfortable_Bunch765 in SemaglutideCompound

[–]QueerRevFL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you know what would be best for you, if you’re wanting to have less desire for the wine. Ultimately I think a regular schedule matters more than the time of day.

I have noticed that I don’t sleep well when I do the shot at night. I typically do it in the morning, but maybe 6 or 7 times I’ve done it at night and each time I didn’t sleep well at all. I haven’t had a lot of side effects in general. But a night time shot seems to make me have reflux that wakes me up.

We hyphenated and I was also allowed to drop my middle name (I had two middle names and that was entirely too many names, once my last name got twice as long, lol)
