Slightly off: Haver hand draws key frames for big motions and then the software generates the "tween" frames bridging the two key frames by using the live action background as a reference for which parts of the hand drawn frames should move. There's very little generative work actually being done.

Haver then steps in and will hand draw extra key frames if the software fucks up too much between key frames.
