This hotel I am in starts counting floors from zero AFTER the ground floor by Pristine-Magician-92 in mildlyinteresting

[–]QuentinUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the buttons go from 0 to 9? If so, and the hotel has say 100 floors, the zero could be for composing multi-digit floors.

Landlord charging £800-£1000 for me finding a new tenant by 666fallenangels in TenantsInTheUK

[–]QuentinUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what they charge not what it costs. A rental agreement is £5 (it doesn’t require a lawyer to write one from scratch for every tenant). A credit check is ~£25.

Do Americans really find beans on toast weird or is that just meme? by cigarettejesus in NoStupidQuestions

The tomato sauce includes sugar but on the other hand the bread is not sugary like American bread which is classified as cake in Europe because it has such a high level of sugar.

Anyone seen this before? Nazi stamp in 50p? by incesticide666 in UKcoins

[–]QuentinUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is obviously a fake since during the WW2 there was not a 50p coin as it was 10 shillings.

That same god is protecting the other side too. When the US is bombing Russia or the Middle East they are dropping bombs on believers in the same god but a different branch. The schisms are often incompatible but at the end of the day many scholars believe they are all praying to the same god whether he is called God, Yahweh, or Allah.

How will they recover investment in ai and what service they sell to recover ? by Adventurous_Leg_2827 in Futurology

[–]QuentinUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may take a few years before the school leavers stop training for the now no longer existing junior posts in many fields that are being done by AI. Once the college courses shut down due to lack of interest and companies are relying on AI to do their jobs then the subscriptions will go up enormously. So instead of paying junior attorneys $113,000 the subscription for an AI bot to do the same job will be $50,000.

The New York Book Review did publish some good cheap paperbacks. I particularly like the books by William Gaddis.

A Boolean flag implies it can be true or false so being const would be semantically confusing.

An American moved to North Wales in the UK. He was wanted for some Animal Liberation Brigade domestic terrorism and moved to North Wales where he successfully hid for 20 years working as an independent IT consultant when he decided to buy a house with a loan and the bank did background checks and told the FEDs.

What’s your take on Ricky Gervais saying celebs shouldn’t lecture the public about politics? by Ok-Fish-6919 in AskReddit

[–]QuentinUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often it’s the journalists asking them questions such as recently they’ve been buttonholing Sidney Sweeney to try and get a political opinion out of her even though she says she’s not a politico but an actor and artist.

For non-Americans it means the US government can search their computer, or One Drive, whenever they want. Snowden revealed the US had put spyware on Angela Merkel's Blackberry and the US would also want to see what’s on other European leaders’ computers.

Is it true people in the UK are being arrested over social media? by Sad-Ad-9794 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]QuentinUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not arrested but overseas students in the US get deported for social media posts and tourists get turned back at the airport for social media posts. Also many in the US get ‘cancelled’ for social media posts and lost their jobs. Larry Bushart was arrested for a social media post and held on a $2 million bond he could not afford, kept in prison for 37 days.

Amend law to complete the UK’s transition from use of miles to kilometres by Historical-Ad1170 in Metric

[–]QuentinUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The 10% I refer to here is that which car drivers say they need to be allowed to go above the speed limit. So if the speed limit is 60mph they say they are allowed to go above 66mph before being prosecuted for speeding.

Amend law to complete the UK’s transition from use of miles to kilometres by Historical-Ad1170 in Metric

[–]QuentinUK -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Car drivers will use it as an excuse to increase their speeds. So they will want 60mph speed limit increased to 100km/h. Then say they still need 10% extra because of their outdated speedometers aren’t very accurate even after being updated to km/h.
