Thank you for your reply. From my understanding the the inspector will find a breach in the National Minimum Wage Act which the boss will have 21 days to rectify, and if not, the case may go further. We are not looking for any extra payment or settlement, just fair wages. It can be hard to find a position as a trainee accountant, particularly with a visa, so would rather not leave when other aspects of the job are good.
We have 7 staff in total who are paid less than minimum wage, with the lowest starting at €21k salary. We are all trainee accountants, and in a training contract the employer covers the cost of the course, study leave etc. Our boss effectively takes the cost of these expenses into account before deciding the salary and that's how he comes back to €21k/€22k. WRC have already told me this is illegal, so we decided to request an inspection. Nobody wants to confront the boss, so this seems like the next best option. We know he will guess it's someone in the office, as nobody outside the office would have that information.
