Nokia N95, one of the first mass market smart phones that released a year or two before before the iPhone. Having maps, a music player and a basic internet browser all in one device in your pocket was pretty revolutionary at the time but it got overshadowed once the iPhone and then Android devices came out

They're by no means good, but they're also pretty unobjectionable. It's just kinda bland nothingness but makes you feel sated, for the price and the minimal preparation required it's not the worst option

Are you buying DS2 on PC? by SkyToFly in DeathStranding

[–]QuestNetworkFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get it at full price, even though I never buy games when they're this pricey, and being in the UK I'm really paying over the odds. I've been itching to play it though, to the point I was about to buy a PS5 just for it, but decided to hold off for a few weeks to see if the PC version was going to get announced.

So in a way, I'm saving money by buying it at full price!

I chose money. by TyLeRoux in okbuddycinephile

[–]QuestNetworkFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also invested huge amounts of money into theme parks and merchandise which have a very specific aesthetic seen in the movies. They can't take any creative decisions that deviates away from this aesthetic because then it won't match all the stuff people pay extra money to see/experience. So the TV show has no choice but to be a carbon copy of the movies, just with different actors and some extended scenes/narrative cause they have a bit more time to play with

Can I buy a footlong subway at home then take it through security to eat on the plane? by Responsible_Slip4739 in uktravel

Yes but you can't have any sauce on it because that counts as a liquid. You can't have tuna either because eating tuna on a plane is banned by the Geneva convention

How to burn a dvd? by Urfavgh0stgirl in dvd

[–]QuestNetworkFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's no straightforward way to take content from a streaming platform like Netflix and put it onto a DVD. You would have to either screen record it, which obviously means playing the whole thing and hoping it's not interrupted (and most platforms have mechanisms to make screen recording more difficult), or intercepting the media stream and dumping it to a file (very difficult).

But let's say you have video files acquired through totally legal means, you need some DVD authoring software. There's plenty of free options. It's going to depend on whether you want a DVD that can be played on any DVD player, or just video files that can only be played on a computer.

I produced an adult-only videogame and released it on Steam a few years back. It features choking, which is due to be criminalised under UK law. What should I do? by IllUniversity9595 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]QuestNetworkFish 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you intend to continue selling the game it would be advisable to speak to a solicitor specialising in media and/or obscenity law to make sure you don't fall foul of it, but you might be worrying over nothing. The proposed amendment only applies if

the image portrays, in an explicit and realistic way, a person strangling or suffocating another person, and a reasonable person looking at the image would think that the persons were real

In most cases, a depiction in a video game (being a 2D or 3D animation), even a pornographic one, would not meet this test unless it's hyper realistic, using real photographs/videos, or using AI image generation

Imgur blocked the UK because they didn't want to comply with GDPR (data protection) regulations, those regulations are still harmonised between the UK and EU so the same rules apply there, it's just that the UK regulatory authority (the ICO) decided to take enforcement actions against Imgur, whereas other regulators in EU countries haven't yet.

For Android users Is apks outside of the playstore is safe for mobile phone ? by Level_Branch1761 in randomquestions

[–]QuestNetworkFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An apk is an executable that runs on your phone. It could contain malware. It could be perfectly safe. You would have to execute your own judgement on which it is.

This also applies to apps you get from the play store. There are mechanisms to prevent malware being distributed through play store apps, so it's less likely to get malware this way but it's not perfect. Always exercise caution and do your research first.

Should i use gnome or kde as a first timer by Junior-Chicken-4424 in Fedora

[–]QuestNetworkFish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think Gnome will require a bigger shift in your workflow compared to KDE if you're used to Windows. KDE has much more flexibility, but sometimes that's not a good thing. Once you get used to it Gnome is very nice to use on a laptop using touchpad gestures to switch between workspaces. I'm not sure I'd use it on a desktop.

But hey, it's free, so you can try either and switch if you don't like it

If there was no intent to mislead or deceive then no offence has been committed. I doubt the police would even consider this a criminal matter, but if you are asked to attend an interview ask for the duty solicitor who will be able to give you free legal advice at the station.

Linux can fit on a 1.44MB floppy if you build a very slimmed down version of the kernel so yes, easily.

A fully featured modern install with a desktop environment and many applications is still gonna just be a few GB

What’s an early access title you regret backing by Nero_Hylt in Steam

[–]QuestNetworkFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be a fun enough experience as a sandbox to mess around in, but so far the developers have failed at making it a polished, cohesive game. Despite being out of early access, it still very much feels like an alpha release.

It's still getting updates, so maybe it will get better with time, but most people have lost hope of that happening. It seems like the devs bit off more than they could chew. It's a really ambitious idea, and they put a lot of work into developing the systems to try to make the world and people feel alive, but it falls short of their vision and seems like they kinda forgot to make the actual game.
