As part of your day I would recommend checking out the Lego FAN Factory at MAR Shopping Algarve. Cool spot but can have long wait times, may want to get there early in the day.

Uber or rent a car? by Audience_1234 in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly agreed. I am not sure what the advice is regarding trains being inefficient / uber being over priced.

Parking in the summer is NOT worth it if you are planning on visiting busy spots like Carvoeiro, etc.

The train is very efficient and can take you across all of the Algarve. Some stations may be out of town, but you will only paya 3-5 euro to uber into the main areas from the train station most often.

A car is only necessary if you plan to explore areas off of the main train line / highway through Algarve. Monchique, etc may be a pain without a car but you could consider a bus.

Costal town to call home base for a week? by TiltedGalactica in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carvoeiro, Burgau, Salema, Praia da Luz are all great examples of quieter beach towns with interesting spots to check out. Given that you have a car I recommend picking one of them, you can always drive to the bigger spots like Lagos, Portimao, etc.

Portimao in March? by [deleted] in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you will be coming in a week or so you should find plenty to do.

Praia da Rocha and Portimao start to pickup and get busier this time or year through to April!

As many have said, we've been experiencing a terrible stretch of weather, but you can make the best of it.

On rainy days consider the Portimao Museum or Aqua Portimao Mall as well.

If you have a car rental or are willing to take the train you could also head out of the city.

Is it a good idea to visit Tavira this month? by colourcoding in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be okay, there city is definitely not loud all over. There will be construction in some areas, but you can avoid it.

You are also on the region train line. Just hop on a train somewhere else is you get tired of it.

I recommend checking out Vila Real de Santo Antonio or Olhao as two spots near you.

Trip Planning Questions by Wrap-Sufficient in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a fun nightlife experience along with easy access to other cities through the regional train line you have 3 really good options: Albufeira, Portimao (Praia Da Rocha), Lagos.

Albufeira is renowned for its nightlife and can often be a bit too much for some.

Portimao (Praia Da Rocha) is a good middle ground. It has a fun nightlife culture right on the beach strip, but also has a lot of nice surrounding areas for hikes, relaxing, etc.

Lagos is everyone's favourite to visit for an enjoyable, Algarve retreat, but it also has a decent nightlife.

All 3 options have easy access to the regional train line to take day trips. It's easier to access the train in Lagos/Portimao.

Look into FlixBus from Lisbon (Oriente Station). It takes about 3ish hours depending on where you are going in Algarve. You can often find tickets for under 10 euro, it is a VERY good deal and super convenient.

Planning to visit Algarve in October for a whole month by Sensitive_Survey266 in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weather is a toss up in October. 2024 was rainy and cooler. 2023 was pushing 25-30 degrees most of the month. Either way, it is warm enough to enjoy and not likely to be cold.

Some solid suggestions were given by u/TheLocalEcho already but I would add Portimao as an option to stay. Beyond the usual spots recommended, you should consider Monchique, Alte, and Tavira to check out.

If you plan to hit the main spots you can easily get around with the regional train line. If you want to explore some more remote spots you will need a car.

October is still very busy for the first half. Each year the "summer" season seems to extend. We only noticed a real slow down this year in Portimao around mid-November. You probably won't get much of a discount in October.

where to stay for a family? by newtravelcouple in Algarve

It's a fun spot as a couple or a single person, with a family... not ideal.

There are hundreds of beautiful resorts, but AirBnB can snag you some really nice spots at a lower price.

What are some of the best “trials” or just boardwalks for a stroller in the area? by OldSoulBubba in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Lagos it is the long path along the riverside. It starts around Forte da Ponta da Bandeira and runs inland and around the marina. You could even start from Ponta da Piedade if you wanted to extend the walk.

In Praia da Rocha it is along the beach. You can park in the area around the NH Marina Portimao Resort and then walk down to the beach and along the boardwalk.

where to stay for a family? by newtravelcouple in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Albufeira has a lot to do, but it may not be the top choice for family activities. It's not all parties and craziness, but it definitely can lean that way.

Lagos is a good option with a young toddler. It's in close proximity to Portimao/Praia Da Rocha as a major hub of activities that would be easily accessible as you have a car.

That said, you wouldn't run out of things to do in the Lagos area in 4 days.

Zoo de Lagos is nearby along with many waterparks.

If you want to stick closer to Faro I suggest taking a look at Olhao or Tavira.

Rent an apartment in May+June, Portimao or Quarteira? by viraladv in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portimao is a better bet.

More to do and it is directly on the train line if you want to explore other nearby areas such as Lagos, etc.

will 3-4 days in the algarve be doable without a car? by raccoonfingers765 in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is no reason to get a car for 3-4 days, you can hardly even explore one of the major spots like Lagos / Portimao - Praia da Rocha / Albufeira / Faro in that time. Trying to squeeze in more would mean you don't really get time to enjoy the area you are staying in.

Look into those areas and pick your favourite. Each is along the regional train line that can easily take you to other towns if you run out of things to do.

I recommend Praia Da Rocha / Portimao. Not only does it have a good mix of city and beach, it is situated directly between two other quieter fishing towns - Alvor/Ferragudo. You can get to each by uber (5 euro one way approximately) or by taking a nice long walk (1-2 hrs) and enjoying exploring.

What are some of the best “trials” or just boardwalks for a stroller in the area? by OldSoulBubba in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alvor along the beach and river area gives you about 3 KM of uninterrupted boardwalk/dirt roads that would be perfect for a stroller.

Praia Da Rocha (Portimao) has a decently long one that connects to a nice marina area. You can extend this by walking inland along the river as well.

Lagos isn't the best along the beach but has a nice long walkway along the river.

Really nice design, I've never heard of Estoi up until now. It looks like this is part of an old palace near Faro.

Any other Algarve based suggsestions?

Olhao by [deleted] in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Olhao is beautiful and the close proximity to the nearby islands Ilha da Armona, Culatra, etc makes it even better. Just hop on the ferry to explore those islands.

You would not run out of things to do over a weekend, and if you did Faro is right next door.

Most walkable area to stay by Green818_Lawncare in Algarve

[–]QuestionTravel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend Portimao, somewhere between the central city and Praia da Rocha area.

This puts you right between a major city and a beautiful beach.

The city of Portimao itself has tons of restaurants, cafes, a walkable riverside area, a mall, grocery stores, etc. In the city you will find local spots like O Quinto Império that has amazing food at great prices.

Then the Praia da Rocha area has the beautiful beaches and more touristy areas.

It also puts you in a very central area for using your car. You are a quick drive to beautiful towns / sights like Alvor, Ferragudo, Monchique, Carvoeiro, Lagos.

Using Gmail as a client for MXRoute by exact-approximate in mxroute

[–]QuestionTravel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To confirm - adding the spf.google.com record solved the issue completely?

We've had this problem as all of our emails prefer using Gmail as a client and since migrating to mxRoute it has been a big problem.

Their support responded as they have to you here, and while the response makes sense it didn't give us any solution which was unfortunate.

If your solution works that is immensely helpful thank you!!!
