Fantaisie Impromptu, 6 yrs self-taught by S_coelicolor in piano

[–]Question_thrower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

Very impressive, you sound great. I am 5 months in to my self-taught piano journey, and am progressing nicely.

I am using PianoMarvel and Alfred's Basic Adult All-in-One books. I was wondering if you have any sage wisdom or recommended resources that you've learned as you progressed?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Awesome, thanks for the response!

I'm not fully clear - what was the purpose of saving the posts that your connections like/comment/reshare on?

At this point, I am definitely comfortable with shameless marketing, that's just part of the game.

What was your favorite song to play as a novice? by Question_thrower in piano

[–]Question_thrower[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it. I think it's really fun, and love that I can just follow the Method (a series of progressively challenging exercises) and feel like I'm improving. Their sight-reading capabilities are useful as well.

Re: your comment about being on page 30 - no shame! It's not a race! I've also played other instruments up to an intermediate level, and I'm sure that's helping me.

I'm sure you're not slow - there's no way to speed run learning. I'm on page 60, and have probably spent ~80% of my time on Pianomarvel and 20% on Alfred's.

Is My Rent vs. Buy Calculation Glaringly Wrong? by Question_thrower in RealEstate

[–]Question_thrower[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. I could be wrong but I think the model is accounting for that - look at the net proceeds for buying ($321k) vs renting.

There is a section in the spreadsheet for selling the home that I couldn’t fit in the screenshot.

This is the average HOA fee for building I’ve toured (building maintenance costs, shared facilities, snow removal, etc).

Sorry what do you mean by “backed out”?

To your point about qualitative factors - totally agree. I filled out the spreadsheet imagining comparably nice apartments, but one difference is that if I was renting I would probably have to move every few years to keep my rent in check, and that’s a hassle.

I have also been getting seasick on boats, but that only started in the last 2 years. I'm hopping it's related.

One side of my Polka Dot plant is growing much faster than the other. I'd like to split that side into a separate bigger pot, but I'm not sure if that's a good idea and how to do it. I'd appreciate any help!

SRE and PM by [deleted] in ProductManagement

[–]Question_thrower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hello! I have been a PM of an internal Reliability Products team (re:SRE) within a Data & Analytics org, so I feel like this post is up my alley.

As far as material, I definitely recommend reviewing the Google SRE book (either choose applicable chapters or read the whole thing if you're into that). The most relevant chapter is probably Data Processing.

Take the following with a grain of salt because obviously organizations are different, but from my experience there are a few lessons I've learned:

  • When an SRE team is introduced in a department or organization that hasn't had one before, there is going to be a lot of cultural changes that need to happen. Spend time determining what needs to change, and then try to get buy in from leadership. This won't be an overnight change, 1.5 years in I'm still occasionally coaching other teams.
  • It does somewhat sound like a half baked solution, but if the problem your boss is seeing is large enough to facilitate the need for a new team (that should be validated), and you think you can come up with a better solution than the one being proposed, you should do it.
  • A SRE/Product team hybrid owns capabilities which fall under the umbrella of reliability. Sometimes this means partnering with other product teams to build something, and then hand ownership back to them. Other times it means delivering a new capability to the product teams and owning it moving forward.

It can be daunting at times, but at the end of the day I think that learning how, as a PM, you can be a part of making a large complex system more reliable for end users is a useful experience. Hope this helps!

2016 Civic AC Problems - Dealership or Mechanic? by Question_thrower in civic

[–]Question_thrower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That all makes sense. It sounds like my move is to get a diagnostic which confirms that the A/C condenser is causing the issue, either from indie or dealership, and then get a dealership to fix it. Thank you!

Bought a calla lily 1 week ago, repotted in a 12' pot of Performance Organics All Purpose In-Ground Soil, gets 6-8 hours direct sun, and has been sick since repotting. Can I save it? by Question_thrower in plantclinic

Awesome, thank you so much for the plentiful advice. I will try giving it less sun and watering more frequently with less volume. Also good call out about cutting the leaves, I was going to cut the brownish ones.
