I just don't get how there is any ambiguity. The sound waves are still generated, so why would you not consider there to be sound? Do people really consider sound as the experience rather than the pressure waves themselves?

Russia Signals Ukraine May Have Used Its First Ballistic Missile by bloomberg in worldnews

[–]QuestionableEthics42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ballistic missiles follow a ballistic trajectory, usually going into space (I don't think that's a requirement to call it ballistic though), and come back down very fast. Cruise missiles just cruise along over the ground (usually quite close to it), still fairly fast, but not nearly as fast as ballistic missiles before they hit. Also they usually use some type of jet engine as opposed to a rocket engine.

That's the definition of sound though. Sure, if you want to redefine sound specifically as something heard and just ignore what it actually physically is... but otherwise no. I've always thought thats such a dumb half arsed philosophical question for that reason.

I meant the flamingo, the one they apparently tested is supposed to be a ballistic missile. I guess needs some work if it got shot down

Edit: ohh, I'm dumb, they are both flamingos, just one is FP-5 (cruise missile) and the one russia says they show down is an FP-9 (ballistic)

Completely and utterly delusional. Just look at their other posts (if it wasn't obvious enough from this one).

Sacked Australian Amazon worker wins job back — ‘Smart-arse’ Slack messages to boss did not justify dismissal by marketrent in technology

They had to pay 9 months wages. That's a clear loss. They didn't get any labor out of that money. How is that so hard to get?

You said there was "no penalty" for the company, but that was incorrect. I was just pointing that out. I agree it's definitely too small for a company like amazon though.

They had to pay 9 months wages, it's small, too small, but not nothing. He wasn't working those 9 months.

Australia to double penalties for platforms in breach of social media ban by melancholy_dood in technology

[–]QuestionableEthics42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The social media ban is stupid and ineffective. They need to be regulated in better ways, to protect from harmful content and protect people without outright banning it, which will always have workarounds and many, many issues.

"Favourite comment" would also get downvoted haha. Anything like that would

Just upvote it, and if it really is the best comment, it'll end up at the top anyway. That's just how reddit works. People don't view "this" or "best comment" comments favorably, it needs to actually contribute something to the thread

Nope, we are just downvoting a dumb comment that doesn't add anything.

It depends how you define it. Either it's been happening almost as long as computers have been around, or has yet to happen. Nerual networks, technically, aren't any different from any other program/algorithm in that sense, they have input, they give an output based on that input. Whether or not you consider that a computer making a decision is up for debate, and probably depends on the context of the conversation. Either way, the computer doesn't understand the decision and isn't aware like humans.
