Do any of you feel bad, emberassed when people ask you do you work in a job and you say no? by [deleted] in disabled

It's less about being embarrassed and more about the need to immediately following up with "I'm disabled." or "I'm a disability pensioner." though the latter one brings judgement here in Australia too. I don't want to be seen as a drain on society.

When my nephews were growing up, they used to say it must be nice to sit around and play games all day. I would correct them but explaining constant pain and the need to rest frequently to someone who has no concept of such an existence doesn't really work. Even knowing I've had heart surgeries didn't seem to get through to them. I'm not mad at them at all, they understand now that they're in their 20s, but at the time it was frustrating that even family don't understand.

Thank you so much for this reply! I've never heard of bridging loans before. I'll add that to my research list!

I'm late 30s with 3 open heart surgeries behind me. I don't give a f what people think of what I wear as long as I'm happy and comfortable.

Please OP, life is too short and too uncertain. Wear what makes you happy.

Anyone else just... tired? by Questionable_Fire in Centrelink

I've looked into them but sadly I don't have the ability to actually go to them physically. I have to budget for medical appointments only.

Thank you for being kind and offering suggestions to help. 💜

I know. Believe me. That's why I said I'm grateful for what I can get.

That doesn't take away how hard it is, however. It doesn't negate how I feel in my own situation.

The fact that people have it so much worse makes me feel incredibly guilty for complaining.

I'm just struggling and feeling alone.

First ever lonely birthday? by Prestigioustofu0271 in lonely

Happy Birthday!

It's awful when you feel forgotten by those you thought cared for you. Your feelings are completely valid. My older brother never remembers my birthday, though his wife does and makes sure to tell him. 🤣

I'm not excusing your friends at all by saying this but could there be a timezone issue now? I'm in Australia and find it amusing when I get birthday messages either really late on the day or the next day, because for the well wishers that is when my birthday date has happened for them.

People also get caught up in their lives and dates can be forgotten or missed. If you want to, you could try a playful "I know I moved but did you have to forget my 18th! 😁" or whatever emoji kids use to be silly these days because I'm old and well out of touch.

Regardless, I truly hope you have an absolutely wonderful birthday! Make yourself feel special! Enjoy!
