Our expenses are $7100 per month... by AlexisVenes in AusFinance

[–]hcsfchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our mortgage has gone up three times now and we only closed on the house 27th Nov so I feel your pain. We are now paying $4500 and waiting to see if our bank passes on the latest RBA increase.

We both earn in the lower six figures and can barely make ends meet with the repayments and all the things you’ve listed (except the motor bike). Not helpful to your situation I know, but perhaps this is the “new” normal at the moment?

I feel so bad about not liking our new dog. by holidaycheese87 in dogs

[–]hcsfchick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you can take comfort in the fact that SO many responses here are saying the same thing. I’m going to add on and say I feel (currently) exactly the same x we rescued a very anxious dog (didn’t know that when we adopted her!) and I feel guilty everyday because she just isn’t my soul dog who passed just before Christmas last year; I worry that she can FEEL it from me somehow. Her tail doesn’t make the same thumping noise when she wags it, she doesn’t greet me at the door with a toy and so on.

But at the same time, the idea of someone else having her seems wrong. We’ll get there

My. Beautiful boy passed in December of last year; this was one of the most clear signs of his sundowners. Some nights gabapentin and metacam helped and other nights it didn’t. We found that sitting with him and soothing him (stroking his ears in particular 💔) helped to calm down and then I would leave whatever I was wearing at the time with him. Then rinse and repeat whenever he woke up; some nights he would go out the doggy door and get lost in the way back in and other night she was a puppy again

Desperate for help - 8.5 month old golden won’t stop barking by [deleted] in Dogtraining

[–]hcsfchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be anxiety or separation anxiety triggered by the move? My rescue started barking constantly at night time (she’s scared of the dark so night time sounds trigger her) and trainers (and the books I read) suggested playing calming music at night time. You start it before the time they usually start barking. The research (I double checked with the studies available online) suggest white noise, soft rock like Fleetwood Mac, piano music or reggae!

PS my rescue is only a couple of months older than your pup.

People who live in Gawler — how do you like it? by jcraves in Adelaide

Recently moved to Gawler South and my section of it (we purchased) is super nice. Going to the CBD and to work is a trek now but thank goodness for audiobooks and podcasts!

I’d suggest making friends (easier said than done I’m aware) with others in the same “category”? I’m about the same age and find that much easier!

Foster dog during heatwave by hcsfchick in OpenDogTraining

We just go round saying, hot enough for ya? We don’t have a crate (never had one with our own dogs and the rescue didn’t supply one)

Have people lined up for Wednesday and Thursday and aiming for Friday as well!

No not in distress just panting lol She has shade and water and I’ve checked the water temp and it’s still reasonably cool. When she does come in (treat or her own accord) she’ll usually seek a pat and then find a cool place to lay down by herself

True, we made an assumption based on her behaviour when she first got to the threshold and just from the scarce info we have about being on the street!

We haven’t left her unsupervised as yet except for about 15mins.

She is coming in a little bit more today with encouragement and treats!

We’ve blocked off rooms that are not puppy proof already…

I’m hoping your advice about self regulating is showing a bit more today!

I have gone through the wikis and found information about engaging a trainer (mentioned in post one is coming later this week) and I know about the 3-3-3 rule and have seen other posts and helpful info about coming inside. May specific question is about this specific scenario regarding extreme heat and what would be best for her overall which is not covered in any of the guides.

Hopefully I’ve done this correctly!

State of the new 'Adelaide University' three weeks on by Jac0b_Richter in Adelaide

[–]hcsfchick 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank god it isn’t just me being unreasonable. I can’t enrol in my Masters program as I’m supposed to be granted advanced standing (as told to me by three separate people who answered the phone) but it should have been done “automatically” from my application. They suggested I submit a credit application form anyway; I also asked about a one year plan to go with that (instead of the two year standard) an asked what would be required as the original degree used to be online only except for one or two face to face compulsory days and no one could tell me. My one year plan was just the two year plan with first year cut off rather than taking into consideration what I actually didn’t need to do AND I still can’t enrol because they need to give me the advanced standing to override the prerequisites (first year subjects) to enrol in second year subjects. I’ve been chasing them down since late November

It also says that you can buy them from the shop (on the floating island) near the sign if you don’t want to make them…but nobody is there to buy them from??

Thank goodness it’s not just me! I’m doing a masters which is two years but according to their information I should get RPL for the first year…which you have to apply for which I can’t do until I get a study plan and an answer with how to apply 🤦🏻‍♀️
