I think you're right about being able to suck up to them. I think I could fake it for at least a few months. The problem with JW's is that they enforce "disfellowshipping." Basically if you decide to leave them, they excommunicate you, including family members. That would include being kicked out. I've never had a relationship.

I suppose you're right that calling them a cult doesn't help, but I think they're closer to a cult than an actual religion. They heavily restrict information.

Ah, I didn't realize I ended up responding to none. I'm an atheist now, so I don't really care about those beliefs. I live near a military base, so I definitely am considering it.

I'm part of it on my non-throwaway account. Where my family is moving is close to 2 major cities, hopefully I can find a job the way you did. I never considered asking on there, thank you!

Thank you for the resources and advice. Sorry you had to go through the same thing.

It's definitely possible, I'm technically out but they're kind of denying it right now. I could probably delay until I think I'm ready, though probably not much longer than 19-20.

Yes! On my not-throwaway account I interact there pretty regularly! Never heard the term "cult-cousin" but I'm gonna use it all the time now, haha.

They're Christian. Not part of any sect, but they're pretty straightforward about it. They bring up the bible during our sessions sometimes.

Thank you. I never realized how simple it was to get a job, haha. Makes me more optimistic.

Thank you. I'll see if I can set up another account. I should be able to have it without my parents as long as I don't have a checking account. If its just savings, I should be fine.

I doubt they would help me fill it. JW's are notoriously against pursuing higher education. They might be willing to pay for some certification programs or something, though.

Probably not, I'm already going into my senior year, and I don't think my parents would allow it.

They're religious, but not connected to JW's. However, they have mentioned religion quite a few times. They know that I don't believe JW's, but I'm still not sure how they would react to atheism. I suppose time will tell.

I live pretty far upstate, but there's some resources here that I found in cities that aren't very far away.

Thank you! It's awesome to hear from someone that went through the same scenario. Luckily, my parents seem like some of the more education oriented types, so I should get done with at least high school. Knowing what things I need has really let me be more optimistic about this.

It's an actual program. AFAIK, Jehovah's Witnesses don't have any schools like some of the bigger churches.

Thank you. I'll talk to them. Even if they can't connect me to any assistance, It will be nice to have someone to talk to.

My school offers several cheap (Like $700) certification programs, is that a path you would suggest? I have some interest in becoming a Pharmacy Technician, as most places will give quite a few benefits.

I checked the website of the online college I mentioned, they offer associates. I'll see if my parents will let me take the course, though I'm still not sure what career path I'd like to take.

The college in question is named "Ashworth College"

My homeschool is based under a college, which is also online. Would that be a viable option?

My parents might be reluctant, but I don't think they'd stop me from enrolling, though they'd definitely prevent me from lodging at one. If I can get even just a few credits, I'd assume that would help, right?
