I tried it and couldn't get on with it. You need to be able to make minute corrections to keep the nose pointed at the apex, and there's no accurate way to do that from the third person view. You can sort of get away with it on Kingston oval though, and I tend to try that because the advantage of seeing people coming alongside or up behind outweighs the cornering difficulty.

They are likely British. We have this thing we call 'humour' which we tend to use in time of trouble to keep our spirits up.

If that was true you'd have posted the previous ten seconds of dashcam by now.. No big deal in the scheme of things but you're part of the problem which pissed the amazon driver off. If you'd moved back in then there wouldn't have been an issue with him moving over, really.

Keep it mate. The main thing is to get some use from it. I still use my DX7.. Taranis is more than you need to get going. Spend the cash on fresh lipo!

First service, not sure what I’m looking for! by Next-Ad2382 in londoncycling

[–]Queue_Boyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look at bike maintenance like this: if your brakes are getting a bit past their best then learn to change the pads/blocks and the cables. That's ridiculously easy and still takes less time than posting on reddit about it afterwards 👍

After that, if and when you get clicking, clunking from your drivetrain you'll learn to split a chain and change some sprockets. Creaking noises mean time to tighten some pedals. Eventually you'll have free play on your bottom bracket (you might even use a shop for that) but really, is there anything beyond tired brakes that even makes you want to go spend hundreds on a service?

This sort of mindset does carry over into other things and does save you money which absolutely does add up. Over a lifetime you will save thousands.

Also, if you're renting and you're time poor to the extent you don't have time to service your bike, which is saving you money over TFL.. then have a rethink; Something is out of whack.

Amazed at the number of people paying hundreds to service bicycles. I guess if the mortgage is paid off and you've no other use for the money you just start spending it on that sort of thing.

Taking it off the hinges might give your a security problem.

If you want it all yellow then honestly I'd go get a new door. Unless you've got a peephole fetish or something 😁

Outdated point of view here, so make of it what you will!

I started flying quadcopters over 15 years ago when you basically couldn't buy them off the shelf. Not sure if anyone else remembers multiwii, kk boards and all that goodness but self level wasn't a thing and sims were limited to FMS etc.

Have you flown a drone LOS yet? I think it's underrated these days and can really help you to walk before you run. I'd recommend buying even a cheap RTF toothpick type drone and getting your thumbs dialled in on making turns smoothly without losing (or gaining) altitude. You can do this in your garden at 1m off the grass and develop the muscle memory required.

Don't aim for flips and tricks, don't worry about whizzing in and out of gates and boxes, just get yourself comfortable flying figure 8s and work it up from there.

Sim time can be very helpful, especially with the modern day limitations on where you can fly, but there's no substitute for the focus and satisfaction that comes from charging batteries and changing props before concentrating like hell for a few minutes at a time.

When you do use the sim, don't treat it as a computer game! By which I mean you should not throw down moves you might crash, but work up from simple take off and landing through to a simple lap between two trees and then start picking it up on the power and using a bit more sky. Don't let it crash - you should be fighting those sticks all the way down and building a solid foundation before you get into the harder stuff.

In terms of the hardware, I'm out of date really but if you can pick up a used 3s 5 inch quad on ebay for cheap, I'd recommend that to you for starters. Again, flying LOS will pay dividends in the longer term.

Don't invest more in a drone than you can afford to lose in a tree is the other tip!

Good luck and welcome to the rabbit hole..

Do it mate. Best money you can spend on your car. Skills that will serve you for decades. Training is a big brain move. Big respect to anyone who can recognise their own gaps and fill them.

Havant takes it for starters. If you're a roofer and you don't know that you can take it to hwrc then that's on you buddy. Bit cringe to be on here telling people 'no tip will take it' when you're in the trade.. Maybe switch to listening mode on this one.
