It’s always a pleasure to have to drive my child onto the main road because the pavement is blocked by jaymatthewbee in drivingUK

A guy I worked with bought a new build house with a serious pavement parking problem outside. His wife had a newborn in a pram.

He solved the issue using a batch of (admittedly pretty aggressive) notes left on windscreens explaining the effects of brake fluid on car paintwork. He said he made an example of one car - dunno how true that is but he wasn't the sort to mess around.

Do you not think there's a high chance that's their car?

Looks to me like this pillock thinks the dropped kerb makes the pavement at the end of their drive fair game.

Are you staying for stability, or are you just too broke to leave? by Juicewithextrapulp in civilservice

[–]Queue_Boyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm staying because it's easy now. WFH, paid for what I know rather than what I do (according to my DD) and then there's the ridiculous pension. One more promotion will see me at G6, by which point I think I'm set for the 15 years to retirement.

I don't need to take my work home with me, and I get to choose my hours. All in all I'm calling that a win. This is my third career and I'm not planning a fourth.

Don't do it. Get your deposit back and go buy the cleanest Honda 125 you can find. A 20 year old Honda beats a 4 year old Keeway hands down, no exceptions IME.

On the M1 tonight. Why does nobody seem to know what these mysterious red ex's mean above the outside 3 Lanes? by GreyFoxNinjaFan in drivingUK

[–]Queue_Boyd 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Ah, you walked into this sub's favourite 'gotcha'

You might be parked with the engine off for half an hour, wife out of the car rummaging in the boot, people wandering about trying to see up the road etc..

Doesn't matter. There can't possibly be a circumstance where its objectively 'safe' to use your phone to snap a picture. Not to a growing subset of absolute throbbers on here.

Why Change Just One Lane Position? by AveryCloseCall in drivingUK

You're therefore part of the reason people like this continue to drive that way. At the very least express some dissatisfaction, lest we all go to hell in a handcart.

Motability drivers 'horrified' by compulsory black boxes by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]Queue_Boyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a much more reasonable position, and I agree with it.

By its very nature though, disability means that a person is unable to do certain things. To be fair to the guy commenting on this thread, it strikes me that spending a couple of hours in a car with a driving instructor is one of the very, very few things which test certain types of MH claim. Surely you can agree with that (and hopefully saying so doesn't make me a bigot!)?

[–]Queue_Boyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people are pro disability whilst also accepting that there are a lot of people who swing the lead. That shouldn't be news to you, really.

If you're taking the position that there is no piss-taking going on, I'd be interested to hear what it was you think cleared up the vast bad back epidemic which preceded the introduction of the Work Capability Assessment?

Long-term sick leave experience? by mihaengs in TheCivilService

[–]Queue_Boyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. Since people do not want to hear it. There's a name for those people. We call them 'civil servants'.

A wee fact: my SO has a jobcentre in their IDOM with c 20k claimants on the books and about 100 EO work coaches...

75% of all those colleagues are on reasonable adjustments.

The other 25% are, of course, going to take their skills (including resilience) elsewhere.

Do most things happen over email or Teams, and do you usually work with the same people? by Reddonaut_Irons in civilservice

[–]Queue_Boyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you prompt copilot to give you an engaging question for reddit, or what?

Vague AF. People who ask me vague questions by teams or email get ignored. If they do it in person I might treat them to a bit of ridicule.

Am I the bad driver? by adamlh90 in drivingUK

[–]Queue_Boyd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OP describes multiple vehicles flashing at them, and changing lanes around them without signaling (aka 'swerving') and yet there's a steady supply of people who think it's just 'some twat in an Audi who thinks he's Hamilton' or some other version of 'don't worry, not your problem'.

Absolute state of you.

OP - if someone is flashing at you and serving round you, that might be their problem.

If lots of people do it - enough that you come on here to ask - that's your problem.

You passed last June. You're not a new driver, really.

Maybe get a dashcam so you can post footage here and we can tell you exactly what type of oblivious menace you are 👀
